Ionian Wikithon started as a satellite event of the Wikimedia Hackathon and has taken place the last three years, 2022, 2023 and 2024, in Corfu, Greece. Its main aim is to strengthen and extend the wikimedia community's ties with the students of the Ionian University and the Department of Informatics in particular. One of our challenges is to welcome and engage more students and volunteers to join the wikimedia community and become active and regular users.

Ionian Wikithon 2025 marks the fourth edition of this event, and this year, we plan to extend both the duration and the scope of our project. Our main strategy is to involve the entire Ionian University community and empower our students to develop diverse skills through a series of activities scheduled for the 2024-2025 academic year. The goal is to foster collaboration among working groups from various disciplines, such as computer science, digital arts, music, translation, history, archives, and library science, showcasing joint outcomes.

Specifically our main objectives include: 1. Community Engagement and Development. We will organize a series of events and workshops to train new and existing contributors on editing Wikipedia, adding Wikidata items and translating content. We will foster partnerships with local institutions and collaborate with libraries, schools and cultural institutions to attract new contributors and source reliable content. 2. Content Creation and Improvement. We will focus to underrepresented topics and create and improve articles on subjects that are underrepresented on Wikimedia platforms, particularly those related to the Ionian region's history, culture, and natural environment. We also intend to implement peer review sessions to ensure high-quality content creation and avoid misinformation. 3. Digital Outreach and Promotion. We use social media to promote the project, share progress updates, and attract a wider audience. We organize challenges and contests to incentivize content creation and engagement among participants. 4. Resource Development and Accessibility. We design guides, tutorials and educational material to assist new editors in contributing effectively and we ensure that resources and events are accessible to people with disabilities, promoting inclusivity within the community. 5. Sustainability and Impact Measurement. We will regularly measure and report the project's impact through metrics like the number of new articles created, the number of participants, and community feedback. We will design future activities in collaboration with other universities in other places of Greece. 6. Cultural and Educational Events. We will organize focused editing events that bring together community members to work on specific topics or themes and host exhibitions or talks to raise awareness about Wikimedia projects and the importance of free knowledge. 7. Feedback and Community Support. We create channels for participants to provide feedback on their experiences and suggestions for improvement and establish support systems like mentorship programs to help new contributors navigate the Wikimedia ecosystem.

The Ionian Wikithon gives our students the opportunity to share their experience and knowledge and acquire new skills. An overarching goal of the Ionian Wikithon is to strengthen the partnership among Wikimedia Foundation and academia. As part of the Ionian Wikithon 2025 we will also organize a workshop at the 1st Ionian University Student Conference on Informatics (IUSCI 2024) in October 2024, which will take place for the 20th anniversary of the Dept. of Informatics, Ionian University.

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.
