- 1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.
I and my team members carried out a qualitative online survey answered by existing Nigerian Wikimedian editors on how often they made use of wikibooks and contribute to it .The responses is as shown on this link. .https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1x6vyfcFxqV_XBgaYt0poeLVauxlkZdqN6HjXCpKYO5I/edit#responses. The responses shows that only few Nigerian editors know how to contribute to Wikibooks. This project is targeted at laying a solid foundation for the widespread adoption and use of wikibooks in Nigeria and also bridging the content gap about Nigeria's history, Cultures, arts, festival and languages on Wikibooks. After my research, this aforementioned categories do not exist on Wikibooks and the few that existed needs to be improved greatly.Wikibooks as an open source for free knowledge should have more content on this areas.
- 1. Languages: Nigeria has over 250 recognised languages and from my research only Yoruba language has a little content about it which is not fully complete. With other languages not having articles about them.
https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Category:Shelf:Languages_of_Africa Bridging content gap on Nigerian language is one of our goal for this project.
- 2. History: Nigerian is a country with lots of interesting history but this histories are not fully documented and also lack content about them on Wikibooks. We hope to also bridge the content gap on Nigerian history.
- 3.Arts, Culture and Religion : This area also lack quality articles and documentation about them on Wikibooks, https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/World_Cultures/Culture_in_Africa/Culture_of_Nigeria we see these projects as a way to actively contributing to the free knowledge goal of the Wikimedia foundation.
Through this proposal we hope to engage new and existing editors to enable them acquire digital and researching skills that would allow them contribute massively by creating and Improving existing articles about Nigeria's history, arts, festival and languages on Wikibooks.
- 2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.
1. Creating awareness about Wikibooks: Many of the participants maybe familiar with editing on Wikipedia but only few are aware of wikibooks and thus enhancing the need for this approach.
- 2.Advocate for Open learning: we hope that educating and training participants about editing on Wikibooks, we can empower them to become advocate for the incorporation of wikibooks editing into course work as part of a larger commitment to open learning.
