Grant Proposal
[edit]- M. Please state the title of your proposal. This will also be the Meta-Wiki page title.
Introducing Wikidata tools
- Q. Indicate if it is a local, international, or regional proposal and if it involves several countries? (optional)
Local
- Q2. If you have answered regional or international, please write the country names and any other information that is useful for understanding your proposal.
- R. If you would like, please share any websites or social media accounts that your group or organization has.
- 1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.
Upon carrying out a survey and also asking community members questions about the usage of Wikidata tools for editing, I have come to realize most of the community members are not actively using(engaging) wiki tools for editing and this is simply because they have no idea about Wikidata tools, how it works and also how to use them to carry out edits.
Tools are important for editing because they provide a systematic and efficient way to review, revise, and improve data. And there are various Wikidata tools, and most of these tools are advanced software with sophisticated algorithms for analyzing and improving Wikidata content. Using these tools can save time and increase productivity, as they can quickly identify gaps that might otherwise go unnoticed and suggest changes that can improve the quality and effectiveness of the content. Additionally, tools can provide consistency in editing, ensuring that the content adheres to established policies, guidelines and follows best practices.
So therefore, the change that I am trying to bring about is to expose community members on tools usage. This, in turn, will lead to enhancing the editing efficiency and effectiveness of community members thereby contributing and improving content quality quickly and accurately.
- 2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.
- my main approach to achieving these changes is to provide clear and concise explanations that highlight the benefits of using Wikidata tools. I believe this approach will be effective because it provides a logical and compelling argument for the use of tools in editing.
In addition to providing clear explanations, I also strive to give practical examples of the benefits of using Wikidata tools. For instance, I might highlight how using a https://wikidata-terminator.toolforge.org, https://wikishootme.toolforge.org/ can help edit and improve an item. By providing concrete examples, I can help editors see the value of using Wikidata tools in a more tangible and efficient way.
- Another strategy I will use to emphasize the importance of Wikidata tools is to showcase the wide variety of tools available. from simple https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/wikidata/ to advance Wikidata analysis tools. There are a wealth of options available to editors today. By demonstrating the range of tools available and their specific uses, I can help editors understand just how versatile and powerful Wikidata editing tools can be.
Overall, my approach to achieving changes related to the importance of Wikidata editing tools is to provide clear, practical, and comprehensive explanations that showcase the benefits of using these tools. By highlighting the wide range of options available and demonstrating their specific uses, I aim to convince these editors of the value of incorporating the usage of Wikidata tools into their workflow.
- 3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?
I will develop and deliver several activities as part of my approaches or strategies to emphasize the importance of using Wikidata tools. Some of these activities include:
- Organizing a 2-day workshops to:
- 1. Providing detailed explanations: I will explain the various types of Wikidata editing tools available, such as https://openrefine.org/, https://hangor.toolforge.org/, https://lexeme-forms.toolforge.org/, https://orthohin.toolforge.org/,https://wd-image-positions.toolforge.org/, https://OpenRefine,https://wikishootme.toolforge.org/, https://quickstatements.toolforge.org etc.. I will also provide detailed explanations of how these tools work and how they can help improve the editing process.
- 2. Offering practical examples: I will provide practical examples of how using Wikidata editing tools can help improve the quality of Wikidata content. For instance, I might showcase how with https://wikishootme.toolforge.org/ you Find places nearby (by coordinates, or Q, or article) that have items on Wikidata but no images yet or https://wikidata-terminator.toolforge.org/ to find Wikidata items that lack a label, description, or article in a specific language etc.
- 3. Highlighting the benefits: I will highlight the benefits of using Wikidata editing tools, such as increased efficiency, improved accuracy, and enhanced quality of Wikidata items.
- 4. Demonstrating the use of specific tools: I will showcase the use of specific Wikidata tools by demonstrating their functionality and how they can be used to improve items.
- 5. Providing resources: I will provide links to useful resources to help editors get started with Wikidata tools.
- 6. Contest will be organize amongst participants and prizes will be giving to editors with best Wikidata tool practice.
By offering these activities, I can help community members understand the importance of using Wikidata editing tools and how they can improve the quality of Wikidata items.

- 6.1 In a few sentences, explain how your work is specifically addressing this content gap (or Knowledge inequity) to ensure a greater representation of knowledge.
One of the key benefits of Wikidata editing tools is that they can help to identify and address content gaps or knowledge inequities(items lacking information), particularly in areas such as gender, race, and culture. Wikidata editing tools enable editors to refine and enhance content gap, making it more accessible and engaging for diverse audiences.
