This project proposal will enable us the non recognized Ibibio Group (in the process of applying for official status) to introduce Wikimedia projects to Ibibio native speakers who will in turn contribute by creating and translating articles to Ibibio language on Ibibio Wikipedia on Incubator.
Ibibio is a language spoken in Akwa Ibom and Cross River states of Nigeria and has up to 10,000,000 native speakers.
Those recruited will also be open to learning digital skills such as the ability to find information online, information they can use to develop the content they will create.
The project is to recruit and train participants who will become active volunteers and contributors in order to fasten the chances of getting our own domain to increase the visibility of Ibibio language on the internet.
- 2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.
We are going to recruit 24 new participants in the edit-a-thon.
A good number of the participants we expect to recruit will probably be conversant with the English Wikipedia, but might not be exposed to the fact that they can actually contribute to Ibibio Wikipedia on Incubator which is their first language.
After training the editors, we are going to assign articles to each of them and use outreach dashboard to track their contributions.
We are also going to give prizes as a form of motivation to top 5 editors who will partake in the edit-a-thon to secure an effective and successful project.
- 3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

Participants who will be engaged before the edit-a-thon will be sent an online form in order to collect their data for registration.
On the day of the project, we are going to teach the participants step-by-step and make sure they get everything about Wikimedia projects and how to contribute effectively, we will start by teaching them how to register an account, Wikimedia policies and guidelines and how to use all the Wikimedia editing tools available to them for a hitch-free volunteering. We will also teach them how to create articles and add references to Ibibio Wikipedia on incubator.
