Elles font le monde

Q. Indicate if it is a local, international, or regional proposal and if it involves several countries? (optional)

Local

Q2. If you have answered regional or international, please write the country names and any other information that is useful for understanding your proposal.

R. If you would like, please share any websites or social media accounts that your group or organization has.

1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

After our first activity, we realized how important it is to reduce the gender gap on the Foundation's projects, especially on Wikipedia. Through the activity "Elles font le monde", we want to highlight about thirty African women and Afro-descendants who have marked or are marking the history of the world on the political, economic, social, technological, etc... by creating for each of them articles on Wikipedia in French. This activity will have the particularity of bringing together women who will create articles on these women.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

We are sure that this series of trainings will bear fruit because our last activity for women was a success and this one will be the same. To achieve this, we will organize a series of twelve (12) meetings during three (3) months each saturday's month from November 23th to February 18th where we will bring together women to write, highlight and value women who have marked and are marking the history of the world. This Editathon (They make the world) will take into account all women with a special emphasis on African and Afro-descendant women. We will meet to write articles on these women and their works every Saturday for three (3) months.

Timeline: November, Wednesday 23rd and 26th; December, Saturday 3rd, 10th and 17th; January, Saturday 7th, 14th, 21rst and 28th; February, Saturday 4th, 11th and 18th

Venue: Sèmè, Abomey-Calavi

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

"They make the world" is an Editathon that takes place in person and will be divided into two phases: of the twelve (12) contribution meetings planned, the first two (2) will be devoted to the training of participants. The first two meetings will be dedicated to the training of the participants, providing them with all the tools they need to easily contribute to Wikipedia and its sister projects. The other ten (10) will be dedicated to the editing itself.

4. Are your activities part of a Wikimedia movement campaign or event? If so, please select the relevant campaign below. If so, please select all the relevant campaigns from the list below. If "other", please state which.

5. Do you have the team that is needed to implement this proposal?

and we will be supported by User:Ross.Patrick

Geographic , Ethnic/racial/religious or cultural background

9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities?

As in our previous activity, we will proceed to a selection of participants through a call for applications via google form. This activity will be announced on our media and the Beninese wikimedia community will be informed. The selected participants will be a mix of those who already have experience in training projects and those who have none to allow them to help each other during the activities. In order to maintain contact and engage the participants, we plan to organize monthly meetings to share our experiences and help those who need it.

In order to keep people informed and to get the support of the community, we spread #Ellesfontlemonde on :

10. In what ways are you actively seeking to contribute towards creating a safer, supportive, more equitable environment for participants?

As announced, before the start of the Editathon, there will be training sessions for participants to show how to contribute to the foundation's projects. These sessions will also allow us to keep participants informed about Universal Code of Conduct. This will allow us to have participants who are aware of the rules governing the foundation. This will ensure that we have a respectful space of civility, collegiality, mutual support and good citizenship, and will ban unacceptable behaviour.

11. Please tell us about how you have let your Wikimedia communities know about the planned activities and this proposal. Learning, Sharing, and Evaluation

[edit]
15. What do you hope to learn from your work in this fund proposal?

The first step will be to reduce the gender gap on Wikipedia; for this, we will work exclusively with women. This activity is innovative in that it is women who will be highlighting other women who are making an impact in the world through their work, and thus we will be both narrowing the gender gap and involving women in our activity. This is our way of contributing to art and feminism. By putting women in the spotlight by other women, it's our way of helping to reduce gender bias on Wikipedia. We're sure we can do it, no matter how small. Because, these women who will participate in our training series will in turn carry the message around them. The gender bias reduction machine is thus on its way and will continue to grow.
