The Change The first change I'm trying to achieve in this proposal is to celebrate the women's contribution on Wikimedia projects and addressing the gender gap in contents creation, women's participation in the Wikimedia issues. Because most of our women more especially Hausa women are not represented in the Wikimedia projects and the female contributors are not feeling more engaged, they are feeling like there is a gender bias in contribution and participation while they have a full right to do what the men can do better. In this proposal or by conducting the celebrate women campaign we want eradicate or address the imbalance of gender gap and inspire the women to be more engaged and ensuring that their voices, story and achievements are documented and accessible globally.

Challenges The following are the challenges I am trying to solve in the project :

  • Underrepresentation in Contents: We have a lack of representation of women's articles in the field of historical and cultural figures more especially Hausa women in Wikimedia projects, by conducting this campaign, this underrepresentation will be addressed and they will be included .
  • Gender Gap in Contributors: Most women of the Hausa Wikimedia contributors are few actives, and the few actives are not feeling self conscious or not have the confidence which will help them to be more engaged and feel that they can do what the men can do better.
  • Lack of Knowledge and Skills: Many people, particularly Hausa women, are unaware of how to contribute to Wikimedia projects or feel intimidated by the technical or collaborative nature of editing.
  • Cultural Barriers: sometimes lack of social and cultural norms discourage our community to be more engaged in Wikimedia involvement but by implementing this campaign of celebrate women they will be engaged and encouraged.

Approaches To address the above challenges, I with my team members will use the following approaches to achieve a desirable change:

  • Awareness Campaign: We will raise an awareness campaign on social media like facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp and through local outreach for encouraging more people to join the campaign movement.
  • Collaboration With Local Communities: We will collaborate with some institutions, cultural organizations like Center for Hausa Literature and Culture and Backbone Education and female organization to source reliable information and engage participants.
  • Community Building: We will build a supportive community of contributors, including the experienced editors to mentor and encourage new participants to continue contributing after the events has ended.
  • Training on Women's Content: We will conduct a workshops to train participants on how to edit and create a Wikipedia articles, with a special focus on women movements and cultural.
  • Content Creation Events: We will organize Edit-a-thon to engage contributors in improving and creating articles about women in the field of historical, political, cultural and educational, using reliable sources to fill existing knowledge gap.
