[edit]1. What is the overall vision of your organization and how does this proposal contribute to this? How does this proposal connect to past work and learning?
LUCG Wikimedia Community is a student-based group with the sole aim of contributing to Wikimedia and its related projects. We oversee all Wikimedia projects at the institution and are run by the alumni and students of Lakeside University College, Ghana. We seek to promote Wikimedia projects among the students through the execution of projects and training as a way of exposing the students to the movement. The aim of this community is to raise young Wikimedians, promote open and free knowledge, and bridge the gender gap in the institution. We aim to achieve this by hosting several projects and events such as edit-a-thons, Wikipedia Education programs, Arts + Feminism events, Wiki Loves campaigns, collaboration with GLAMs, and other related projects that aim to promote Wikimedia projects in the institution.
2. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important?
1. Content Gender Gap: Ghana is a female-dominated country but still has fewer articles or items about notable women on Wiki projects. This issue is important to us because, as a community, we will want to contribute our efforts to reduce the systematic bias in the movement.
2. Community Engagement: Although the community is still expanding, we have witnessed community members' enthusiasm dwindle due to a lack of regularity in our activities. As a result, we decided to organize a year-long project series to assist in addressing this difficulty. In this manner, we will be able to evaluate the capabilities, contributions, and commitments of our community members before moving on to understand how we can assure community continuity and collaboration.
3. Campaigns: While our community members have participated in our edit-a-thons and engagements, many have described them as uninteresting and exhausting. This is because our events solely cover educational themes like citations, article/item creation/improvement, and building communication and research abilities and have made it difficult to retain some volunteers/editors.
3. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.
1. Content Gender Gap: We will be concentrating more on the topic of women on Wikipedia and Wikidata. We will organize in-person edit-a-thons to focus on articles/items that include underrepresented genders. To achieve this, we will set up a curation team of five (5) to search for information and credible references on the topics of interest to aid our volunteers' participation in our editathons.
2. Periodic Meetups: Although we have chosen to adopt projects that will last for a longer period of time, we believe that meeting with volunteers and editors on a regular basis will allow them to express their feelings while also providing us with feedback on our conduct and assessing our activities so far.
3. Wiki Loves Activities: A large proportion of images contributed during Wiki Loves Campaigns are not presently being utilized on other Wikimedia projects. During our Wiki Loves Campaigns, we hope to shift this narrative by hosting edit-a-thons to produce new articles as well as attach existing pictures to Wikipedia and Wikidata.
4. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?
Content Gender Gap: We will organize editathons/workshops for members of our community to work on articles with underrepresented genders. We will organize 24 editathons throughout the year and create/improve over 1000 articles/items on Wikipedia/Wikidata respectively. By doing so, we will ensure that more than half of the articles created or improved are linked to women. To ensure the quality of our project is intact, we have requested laptops and a projector for core team members who will be leading the project. We will ensure to share these equipments with other community members in Ghana.
Community Engagement: We will hold a meeting with both our community and team members quarterly to discuss the events of the previous quarter as well as the overall progress of the community. We will also provide them with the necessary skills to keep the community moving. This was underlined to ensure equity in decision making, Identify Topics for Impact and Evaluate our quarterly activities.
Continuation of IUCG bi-weekly meet-up: This year, our team began an editathon series at Islamic University College, Ghana, and has seen a massive improvement in participants' perspective on the movement and how Wikipedia and Wikidata works. We will continue the same this year by meeting them fortnightly and engaging them more on content improvement, categories, citations, infoboxes, and other preferential templates. In total, We will organize 24 workshops throughout the year and would have improved/created over 1000+ articles/items on Wikipedia/Wikidata respectively.
Wiki Loves Activities: We will conduct campaigns such as Wiki Loves Folklore, Wiki Loves Earth, and Wiki Loves Monuments to encourage people to contribute images, audio files, and video files to Wikimedia Commons. We will also hold edit-a-thons utilizing images from the contests to build and improve Wikipedia articles and Wikidata items.

11. What are your strategies for engaging participants, particularly those that currently are non-Wikimedia?
Gender: We will make a deliberate effort to include women who are underrepresented in the movement here in Ghana. They will play vital/important roles in our activities. Some of these roles include organization, facilitation, and participation.
Geographic: The community consists of people from different regions in West Africa. Frantic efforts will be made to ensure that people from underrepresented regions are represented in the community.
Ethnic/racial/religious or cultural background: The community constitutes people of different underrepresented religious and ethnic backgrounds.
We plan on retaining participants through our one-on-one mentorship system, which ensures continuous engagement of participants in Wikimedia activities. We also track the contributions of community members through the Outreach Dashboard to give incentives to top contributors who contribute after the events.
12. In what ways are you actively seeking to contribute towards creating a safer, supportive, more equitable environment for participants and promoting the UCOC and Friendly Space Policy, and/or equivalent local policies and processes?
We will ensure that we include a "friendly space" policy in our form for participants who intend to participate in our activities. All forms of harassment will not be tolerated.

To maintain and engage volunteers and contributors in our community, we will continue to arrange bi-weekly gatherings. We will have quarterly meetings for members of the community and partners to share their learning experiences. We will conduct surveys to gather feedback from people in the community and partners on what worked and did not work well.
We will assess the overall impact of our projects by interacting with our team members and volunteers during our engagements to learn more about how we can continue to work with them
16. What kind of risks do you anticipate and how would you mitigate these. This can include factors such as external/contextual issues that may affect implementation, as well as internal issues, such as governance/leadership changes.
- Institution's Holiday Period: Although a date has not been set for the holiday period, we anticipate that it might clash with some of our events. We hope to mitigate this by scheduling our event on more flexible days.
IP Blocks: Many participants and already existing editors face this challenge often in our region. We anticipate it and plan to create the accounts before the events to enable us to reach out to the admins for exemption.

1. How to reach new editors or volunteers? In the recent events we had, we communicated with participants by getting to know them and explaining what the movement is about. We then made them anticipate the event by using the "tell a friend to tell a friend" method which boosted their motivation to attend the event. This time, we hope to maintain that method and also continue learning from the process. We also plan to use the school's structures to promote the movement in the institution.
