[edit]1. What is the overall vision of your organization and how does this proposal contribute to this? How does this proposal connect to past work and learning?
- LUCG Wikimedia Community is a student-based group with the sole aim of contributing to Wikimedia and its related projects. We oversee all projects at the institution and are run by the students at Lakeside University College, Ghana. We seek to promote Wikimedia projects among the students through the execution of projects and training as a way of exposing the students to the movement. The aim of this community is to raise young Wikimedians, promote open and free knowledge and bridge the gender gap in the institution. We aim to achieve this by hosting several projects and events such as edit-a-thons, Wikipedia Education programs, Arts + Feminism events, collaboration with GLAMs, and other related projects, which aim to promote Wikimedia projects in the institution.
2. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important?
- 1. Internet Connectivity: This is a common constraint in the region but the recent event we organized was almost altered by the poor service from the internet providers. Therefore, we concluded that we will be using a better provider for our subsequent event after trying different options because it is nearly impossible to execute the task without a stable internet connection.
- 2. Content Gender Gap: Ghana is a female-dominated country but still has lesser articles or items about notable women on Wiki projects. This issue is important to us because we as a community will want to contribute our effort to reduce the systematic bias in the movement.
- 3. Community Engagement: Although the community is still growing, we have seen the interest of community members reduce due to a lack of consistency in our events.
3. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.
- 1, Internet Connectivity: Previously we relied on wireless connections but it didn't seem to be effective. Since our venue will not change, we will be installing fixed Fibre networks which are faster and will improve our productivity.
- 2. Content Gender Gap: We will be focusing more on the subject of women on Wikipedia and its sister project.
- 3. Community Engagement: We have chosen to adopt projects that will last for a longer period.
4. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?
- Content Gender Gap: We will ensure that more than 50% of the articles that are being created or improved are women-related.
Community Engagement: On this particular project, we will be organizing an online and in-person workshop on Wikipedia and Wikidata fortnightly for the remainder of the year. We will also continue our one-on-one mentorship system that has seen our community grow at a better rate.

11. What are your strategies for engaging participants, particularly those that currently are non-Wikimedia?
- Gender: We will make a deliberate effort in including women who are underrepresented in the movement here in Ghana. They will play vital/important roles in our activities. Some of these roles include; Organization, Facilitation, and Participation.
Geographic: The community constitutes of people from different regions in West Africa. Frantic efforts will be made to ensure that people of underrepresented regions are represented in the community.
Ethnic/racial/religious or cultural background: The community constitutes people of different underrepresented religious and ethnic backgrounds.
We plan on retaining participants through our one-on-one mentorship system which ensures continuous engagement of participants in Wikimedia activities. We also track the contributions of community members through the Outreach Dashboard to give incentives to top contributors who contribute after the events.
12. In what ways are you actively seeking to contribute towards creating a safer, supportive, more equitable environment for participants and promoting the UCOC and Friendly Space Policy, and/or equivalent local policies and processes?
- We will ensure that we include a friendly space policy in our form for participants who intend to participate in our activities. All forms of harassment will not be tolerated.

- 1. How to reach new editors or volunteers?
In the previous event we had, we communicated with participants by getting to know them and explaining what the movement is about. We then made them anticipate the event by using the "tell a friend to tell a friend" method which boosted their motivation to attend the event. This time, we hope to maintain that method and also continue learning from the process. We also plan to use the school's structures to promote the movement in the institution.

We will be having both in-person and virtual meetings every month. We observed that some participants learn better in groups and some do privately. We consequently decided to have both in-person and virtual meetings to ensure everyone learns in their preferred mode. We are curious to see how this turns out.
