Grants:PEG/Shared Knowledge/WikiWomen Macedonia
Goal
[edit]Please briefly describe what will be accomplished if the project is successful (2–3 sentences).
- The goals of the project are the following:
- to promote the Wikimedia movement and its values to the women as a target group;
- to increase participation of female editors on the Wikimedia projects;
- to encourage editing on topics related to women on Wikipedia;
- to establish cooperation between Shared Knowledge and female organisations.
Plan
[edit]Activities
[edit]The main activities of the project include organising 27 sessions in two months of edith-a-thons and trainings in two cities in Macedonia, Skopje and Kumanovo. Target attendance are women of several organisations in Macedonia. They will be educated through a step-by-step course how to edit Wikipedia and will edit Wikipedia during the planned edit-a-thons.
Table of activities:
- 1-5 March — Contact with several organisations in Macedonia;
- 6-8 March — Creating the project and budget, also editing the grant page;
- 1 April-31 May — Organising the sessions;
- 1-15 June — Publish the report.
Impact
[edit]Target readership
[edit]The target Wikimedia project is the Macedonian Wikipedia, although Serbian Wikipedia will benefit as well. This is because nine of the sessions will be with women from the Association of Serbs in Macedonia.
Fit with strategy
[edit]What crucial thing will the project try to change or benefit in the Wikimedia movement? Please select the Wikimedia strategic priority(ies) that your project most directly aims to impact and explain how your project fits. Most projects fit all strategic priorites. However, we would like project managers to focus their efforts on impacting 1-2 strategic priorities. Examples of strategic priorities can be found at here.
The scope of the project with its name "Wiki Women" is our attempt to reduce the gender gap in Macedonia. We want to increase the number of female editors on the Macedonian Wikipedia, which are currently well underrepresented.
Measures of success
[edit]The success of the project will be assessed through the following measures:
- at least 150 female editors are educated on how to edit Wikipedia;
- at least 5% of them remain active editors on Wikipedia in the first year;
- at least 150 new articles are created by the participants in the project;
- establishing cooperation with at least 2 female organisations.
Resources and risks
[edit]Resources
[edit]Our team will consist of members from Shared Knowledge, as well the coordinators from the partnering organisations who will have to contact and coordinate the female activists. For now, we have established a collaboration with three big Macedonian organisations: The Association of Serbs in Macedonia; HOBS in Macedonia; and the unofficial women association with the name "Fight as women".
The members of Shared Knowlede who will participate in the project are the following:
Risks
[edit]The main risk is if the partners organisations would not be able to provide enough female participants. This risk could be overcome by extending collaboration with other female organisation, which are interested to participate in this project, and we are in contact with them at the same time.
Budget
[edit]Please provide a detailed breakdown of project expenses according to the instructions here. See Budget Guidelines. Grantees are subject to line-item scrutiny of expenses. Changes to the approved budget beyond 10% in any category must be approved in advance.
