Project goal
[edit]Mysore is one of the largest academic centers of the country. It has one of the oldest universities of India. The city is known as the cultural capital of Karnataka state. Although there is significant contribution from the city to English projects of Wikipedia, there is a sizable community contributing to the local language projects. The goal of this project is to gather the Wikimedian community and establish a stronger community with specific focus on language projects. The event would also help to gather some pace for outreach here.
Non-financial requirements
[edit]- Wikipedia 10 merchandise
Fit to strategy
[edit]The event would help in gathering some pace for the language projects (especially for some languages spoken here locally - Kannada being the largest spoken). This event falls within the scope of the Wikimedia Foundation's strategy to increase readership and participation in the parts of the developing world.
Other benefits
[edit]The Wikipedia 10 celebration is a good opportunity to grab attention of the academic world of Mysore towards Wikipedia. Mysore has a vast academic community. The city is culturally rich. The media attention, participation would make it easier specifically in taking Wikipedia to institutions and in getting them to participate or free up content they own.
Measures of success
[edit]Good participation, good coverage in media and increase in contributions from Mysore to the local language projects of Wikimedia.
