I have just recently learned of this committee and am sincerely interested in supporting its endeavors. I have sufficient available time to dedicate an apportion to this worthy initiative. I am impressed with the esteemed members I've seen who comprise this committee and am fully confident that it constitutes a capable body. I do wish the best to this entire group. Sincerely - My76Strat (talk) 20:30, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

Having been part of several grant requests in the past and experiencing the great work of the GAC since its beginning, and the chapters I am working with moved away from the grants-scheme to FDC, I feel like I could

  • bring in some experience of "sitting on the opposite side of the table", being a grant requester
  • avoid any future conflict of interest as it is unlikely that "my" chapters (AT / CH / DE) will submit a grant request in the upcoming year

When we will do WikiCon in Switzerland in maybe two years I will request for a grant for that but I also plan to invest some time and effort in this committee to make it a useful term and then retire to let other people bring in their own expertise. So should this situation come up I will most likely not be on the GAC anymore and should I (for whatever reason) I will stay out of the discussion to avoid any conflict of interest. --Manuel Schneider(bla) (+/-) 08:12, 13 July 2013 (UTC)

Potential issues that just came to my mind:
  • I am a paid contractor for Wikimedia CH (IT responsible) since the beginning of the year (I was a long-time volunteer and founding member of WMCH, and I still do a lot of things on a volunteer basis also for WMCH, which fall out of the scope of my paid work)
  • I am Council Member to the Wikimedia Chapters Association, elected by the General Assembly of Wikimedia Österreich (where I am a member since 2010 and have been on the board for one term until the end of 2012 where I didn't recandidate but was nominated and elected to be WCA council member instead).

Hi there, I think I can help out with this. I am currently on the Individual Engagement Grants committee and am on the Wikimedia Australia committee, and in the past was a WMF community fellow, so I have some experience with grantmaking already, as well as some familiarity with how the WMF grants process works. I've been a Wikimedian since 2008, main projects are English Wikipedia. I'd love to be on board. Steven Zhang (talk) 11:44, 19 July 2013 (UTC)

Hey, I'm up for this position. I'm currently board member for WM South Africa, and the main proponent for the upcoming Belgian chapter. I've been involved in multiple grant requests for those two organisations (including sourcing external funding). I'm an Wikipedian since 2005. MADe (talk) 03:54, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

I've been editing ENWP for a few years, and have been involved in a variety of fun outreach type stuff. I finished an external review of the grant program some time ago, and feel like I have a pretty idea of what works, what doesn't, and where people tend to run in to problems. I feel like being one of the only people who has ever reviewed the results of every Wikimedia grant ever would give me some valuable insights to add to the committee. Kevin (talk) 20:54, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

Wikimedia Italia chair, past WMF board member (where I was member of the audit committee). With WMI we asked a grant few months ago for the WMConf 2013.. I usually work with WMI board on the WMI budget and on every projects budget. A couple of projects we're developing are financed with non-WMF grants and I usually supervise all the accounting activies. --Frieda (talk) 11:53, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

Contributed my own photos during the contest (not for nominations, because of potential conflict as a committee member) - was 3rd by number of photos uploaded and 5th by number of natural monuments pictured in Kyiv.
    • developing online application to track chapter finances - http://wmua.herokuapp.com/ (Due to free hosting, it can take time to load for the first time, but once loaded it works fast; filling data is currently work in progress, so do not trust the numbers :)) Operations are password protected, statistics is open.

Until the final moment I was thinking if I could have enough time for GAC committee, but I think it will be very interesting to evaluate, compare and look for interesting ideas in other chapters' grant submissions, so I have decided to apply. --Ilya (talk) 05:09, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Aegis Maelstrom (Michał Buczyński)

[edit]
  • Wikimedian since 2004, sysop, former ArbCom member, vice-president of Wikimedia Poland since 2012
  • IRL economist, an obligatory reporting professional
  • more...

I think I could bring some skills and experience to the GAC - maybe not necessarily in building a reporting machine for FDC, this is not precisely this job :) - but certainly in some reasonable and careful judgement on proposals. aegis maelstrom δ 05:48, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

I am Wikimedian since the end of 2005. In wikiverse, I have organized and co-organized many outreach and presentational and PR activities as well as I've been involved in logistics of various international meetings, utilizing my long-term experiences from such area in the real life, so I guess I have quite good overview of needs in this areas. I am very careful about reasonable spending of resources and quite meticulous with processes to prevent misuse or abuse of resources. I have rich experience and significant success with sponsors/donors/partners lookup either in wiki or real life, where the basic principles of dealing with given resources are the same like dealing with grants. So as a person who has many years of experience of dealing with sponsors, donors or long-term partners I can bring also this point of view to the grant process. I am also interested in statistics and comparisons of spendings.
