[edit]Please briefly describe what will be accomplished if the project is successful.
- Project goal
- More indigenous people in Asia are aware of their freedom to contribute to Wikipedia and have the capacity to edit.
Measures of success
[edit]Please provide a list of measurable criteria that will be used determine how successful the project is. You will need to report on the success of the project according to these measures after the project is completed.
- Measures of success
- We will consider this project a success if indigenous people who participate in trainings are able to successfully edit Wikipedia. An extra indicator of success will be whether participants continue to contribute to Wikipedia in the six months following the training.
Project scope and activities
[edit]This section describes what will happen if this project is funded. Who will do what, and when?
- List of activities
- We would like to do trainings in Wikipedia editing for indigenous people in participating countries. This can go alongside other trainings happening through the project such as in community radio or social media. Funding for this project will cover the cost of bringing trainers with the required cultural and language skills to the locations of the trainings, as well as training venue and resources.

Impact
[edit]In the sections below, please describe how the project is related to the Wikimedia mission and Wikimedia's strategic priorities.
Fit to strategy
[edit]- How will this project support the key organizational objectives of
- increasing reach (more people will access or contribute to Wikipedia or our other projects),
- participation (more people actually contributing),
- quality (more content, more useful content, or higher-quality content),
- credibility (more trust in our projects),
- organizational maturity and effectiveness (how it will move you or the Wikimedia community forward),
- or financial sustainability (how it will help you achieve more in the long run)?
- This statement should address at least one of the strategic priorities listed here specifically. See WMF Grants Program criteria for decisionmaking.
- According to Wikipedia's strategic plan:
"Large segments of the world's population do not edit the Wikimedia projects proportionate to their real-world numbers. The people who write the Wikimedia projects are disproportionately male, young, and from countries in the Global North:[4] Four out of five editors are male.[5] Half are under the age of 22.[6] Four out of five edits come from countries in the Global North.[7] Increasing both the total number of editors, and their diversity, is a key priority for the Wikimedia movement. We need to improve our dispute resolution processes to prevent editor burnout. We need to recognize and reward editor excellence. We need to invite readers to become editors – particularly women and people in the Global South. We need to improve the editing interface in order to reduce barriers to participation. When people try editing for the first time, we need to support and coach them."
This project will directly address Wikipedia's strategic plan for greater participation. All people gaining capacity through this project will come from the Global South. AIPP's gender diversity policy ensures that as many indigenous women from the Global South will be involved in training as indigenous men. As well as building the capacity of indigenous peoples, trainers and established participants in Wikipedia can also build skills in supporting and coaching indigenous peoples in participating in Wikipedia.
