Project idea

[edit]

What is the problem you're trying to solve?

[edit]

Mainly, this tries to achieve:

  • Higher quality contributions. This is, contributions that include, preferably:
    • References.
    • Good grammar and syntax.
  • Generate more engagement to new users.
  • To make make life easier for content writters.
  • To make make life easier for reviewers.

What is your solution?

[edit]
UI Proposal

The idea is standardize how people contribute to articles articles by scoring the submission on several aspects. On the UI Proposal on the right the main features are visualized:

  1. A floating box appears exactly where you are editing new content.
  2. The characters to write are counted (although not limited in any way) to prevent extremely big contributions that are hard to review.
  3. The text is checked to see if it already exists
  4. Grammar and style is scored.
  5. Absence of reference is scored
  6. A score of the submission is then shown.

  • One of the biggest problems with verifying and compartmentalizing and maintaining individual contributions is that it's hard to isolate them, as you said. The 'diff' system is pretty good but can be very clumsy. I don't know if that's an implementational issue, or whether it's possible to substantially improve the raw diff algorithm. Sometimes I try to make my edits more comprehensible by previewing the readability of Mediawiki's diff output, and thus making multiple edits to accommodate it. The editor should be able to give diff metadata, like showing where one segment or idea moved to another segment. Almost like whiteboarding with areas being circled and arrows drawn, but obviously much simpler. There could be edit messages given to individual areas of wikitext. And the edit summary size needs to be much bigger, because right now it's often useless like trying to write a mini essay on Twitter or Imgur. Basically there needs to be a seriously improved diff system, while still being simple. Thank you.Smuckola (talk) 08:31, 13 July 2016 (UTC)
