Wikipedia for all students

The idea basically is to provided printed materials explaining the usefulness of Wikipedia (like a pamphlet), and how to use it in learning and research as students, even in the primary and secondary level. Then seminars with undergraduate final year and master's students of universities on research and how Wikipedia will be of great use to them, and how they too can contribute on Wikipedia. Select volunteering student ambassadors to wear Wikipedia tags on shirt and face hats for offline awareness wherever they go.

English, usually.

This can include services and apps in social media, mailing lists, physical spaces like conferences or lectures, or at specific institutions like at a library.
Library, classroom, Facebook, Twitter, seminars, WhatsApp.

What are some reasons this group would use Wikipedia? How would they benefit from it, or what would they find useful?

Think about what they would be interested in reading and learning about; does Wikipedia provide better access to information this group cares about?
They'll learn the basics of standard research principles, and would be willing to contribute to a space that would challenge them to want to improve on their scholarship.

What language Wikipedia projects will you promote to new readers?

English, Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, Urhobo, Edo

How will you communicate with new readers? Will you be communicating with them online, in-person, or both?

Both online and in-person communication and invitations.

Describe your idea to engage new readers. How might it be implemented? What will you tell people about Wikipedia?

Think about the steps that might involved to make this idea happen, and what you might teach people about your experience or others' experiences using Wikipedia.
First, we go to primary and secondary schools and tell the administrators about our mission, and how it would improve the lives of their students, then we'll get their permission to relate with the pupils and students. We'll distribute colourful materials to them that would prompt them to want to study more with Wikipedia.

As for tertiary institutions, Wikipedia lectures and how to improve research and learning standards through the internet would be discussed. And also, they will be invited to contribute on Wikipedia in articles related to their fields, plus add articles about Nigeria that should be on Wikipedia, based on the guidelines, but aren't there yet.

Increased page views, and increase in the number of articles relating to Nigeria especially.

Yes. I would need resource persons to assist in the seminars, and would need financial support to help print Wikipedia materials that would be distributed during the process of our campaign.

About the idea creator

I'm David, a pharmacy student. Been using Wikipedia to obtain knowledge for about 9 years now. I'm pretty curious, so yeah, I've spent hours that would cumulatively amount to years on Wikipedia. Honestly, I've learnt more through Wikipedia than I have learnt in school. I registered on Wikipedia on 26th December, 2017, so I could edit an error I found on a page. I'm also a writer, and I have self published a book. I do copywriting as well, and am a blogger. I'm involved in business and investment, also.
