Project idea
[edit]We've been speaking with an organization called "New Media Advocacy" that specializes in video campaigns to advocate taking action. They suggested targeting women's groups (some work would need to be done to define the target groups), to get more women involved.
We could think about a March online media campaign in partnership with outside organizations. It would be centered around WikiWomen's History Month, international women's day, etc.
In order to have a successful campaign, I think we'd need to do more than inspire women to begin editing. We'll need to support and motivate them to continue. Here is an integrated strategy we could experiment with on one or more languages of Wikipedia to encourage more women to become members of the movement:
- encourage organizing Wikiparties - gatherings with friends to catch up and donate some time to Wikipedia.
- offer toolkits to help people throw wikiparties, learn how to edit, etc.
- connect via WikiWomen's Collaborative - social channels (blog, FB, Twitter)
Project goals
[edit]Recruit and retain more women to successfully contribute content to Wikipedia.
Open questions
[edit]- I believe this project will need significant community organizing to keep the pieces working smoothly together. Would any Wikipedians be interested in working on this idea?
