Grants:IdeaLab/Sharing Wikipedia documents not just on the browser

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
Sharing Wikipedia documents not just on the browser
A lot of myths and ill-information is prevailing in India. Plus a lot of people do not have basic ideas such as democracy and Parliament. A good number of people are not clear about the process of elections to different offices of the nation. A very short form of Wikipedia pages should be made which could be instantly shared of social media platforms like Whatsapp and Facebook. In the same way, as images and gifs are circulated, Wikipedia Short Pages could also be circulated.

Audience

[edit]

Who are the people you want to introduce Wikipedia to?

[edit]

Try to be as specific as possible about this group.
Teachers, students and the population of people who enter into debates on social media to get their content right. Also to the people who really need to understand some basic concepts like Democracy and elections.

In what languages do they search for information, online or otherwise?

[edit]

I think, people mostly read content in English. English has become so common that people get the gist of things even if they are not fluent enough with the language.

In what ways does this group communicate with each other?

[edit]

This can include services and apps in social media, mailing lists, physical spaces like conferences or lectures, or at specific institutions like at a library.
Through Facebook, Whatsapp, Quora and every such place where people spend a lot of their time

What are some reasons this group would use Wikipedia? How would they benefit from it, or what would they find useful?

[edit]

Think about what they would be interested in reading and learning about; does Wikipedia provide better access to information this group cares about?
As I mentioned before, everybody wants to speak the most accurate data and what better place than Wikipedia. Wikipedia offers the most authentic data. At times when Wikipedia is not sure about the content, it does mark "citation needed".

Project idea

[edit]

What language Wikipedia projects will you promote to new readers?

[edit]

English and Hindi

How will you communicate with new readers? Will you be communicating with them online, in-person, or both?

[edit]

Both

Describe your idea to engage new readers. How might it be implemented? What will you tell people about Wikipedia?

[edit]

Think about the steps that might involved to make this idea happen, and what you might teach people about your experience or others' experiences using Wikipedia.
As I mentioned before, Wikipedia offers the most authentic data. People in this social world need clarity in information. Rumours and spiced-up data are being circulated at every nook and corner of the social media platforms.

How will you know if this project is successful? What are some outcomes that you can share after the project is completed?

[edit]

If you’re not certain about how to respond to this question when starting your idea, you do not need to answer it right now. Campaign participants and Wikimedia Foundation staff can help you consider some options.
This project basically aims to inculcate a habit in people to authenticate their data and understand the very basic and important concepts of which they are a part of. It will be reflected in the overall development of individuals of all age. Also, the level of communication is bound to increase, which is one of the primary aims of Wikipedia.

Do you think you can implement this idea? What support do you need?

[edit]

Do you need people with specific skills or resources to complete this idea? Are there any financial needs for this project? Do you need advising from Wikimedia Foundation staff?
Yes. The pages that are most read on Wikipedia can be re-written into smaller and crisp pages. Now, this data can be morphed into images or gifs or pdf such that the data becomes catchy. Plus the language should be very simple. Our aim is to spread authentic and correct information and not to improve their English or Hindi.
