Project idea

[edit]

What is the problem you're trying to solve?

[edit]

harassment, trolling, and junk edits

What is your solution?

[edit]

If 4chan is a testament to anything, it's that given the anonymity and general lack of consequences, user-generated content will quickly end up unfit for the trash-heap.

First, anyone wishing to edit will need to sign in. Then, by creating a "probationary" account status between the "unregistered" and "new" usergroup flow, probationary users will need to earn their "new" account privileges from within tight restrictions.

for instance...

Probation account (0 days - 30 days + 30 accepted edits)

  • limit edits/posts/comments to 50 characters/day
  • immediate perma-ban (IP/email address/other) if involved in harrasment/trolling/intentionally misleading edits during probationary
  • other?

The basic idea behind this is to make accounts the "new user" privileges undependable by making gaming the account maturation process more work than it's worth.

Goals

[edit]

Curb harassment, trolling, and junk edits by readjusting the freedoms of fresh accounts or accounts with few edits.
