Project idea
[edit]What is the problem you're trying to solve?
[edit]The gender gap issue.
What is your solution?
[edit]Let be real here, Wikipedia can be confusing as heck, I even had trouble at first submitting an image to this idea and it’s annoying to keep scrolling down all the time.
First make design changes so submitting content and images are as simple as Twitter or Facebook. Wikipedia is intimidating to people without coding/computer experience and because more men have experience and an interest in coding than women they are the ones who tend to contribute more.
After fixing the design, make short (maybe funny?) Youtube videos (that get posted on Twitter, Facebook, etc.) where famous men and women bring up how easy it is to submit and fix funny mistakes on their own pages (and then in later videos bring up that less than 20% of the content is provided by women, plus more issues to address down the road). Also in these videos there should be links to easy "How-To-Submit" videos.
Remember, if you first come out talking about gender gaps it could upset the current male demographic of submitters (many of them with a background in coding) and create a backlash.
Goals
[edit]
1) Make Wikipedia as easy to edit as Twitter and Facebook.
2) Make fun videos with celebrities highlighting how easy it now to submit to Wikipedia, now with easy "How-To-Videos".
3) Then after make more videos to bring up issues, including the gender gap.
