Audience
[edit]Who are the people you want to introduce Wikipedia to?
[edit]Try to be as specific as possible about this group.
Public School Students
In what languages do they search for information, online or otherwise?
[edit]Arabic
In what ways does this group communicate with each other?
[edit]This can include services and apps in social media, mailing lists, physical spaces like conferences or lectures, or at specific institutions like at a library.
SMS, Phone Calls, Facebook
What are some reasons this group would use Wikipedia? How would they benefit from it, or what would they find useful?
[edit]Think about what they would be interested in reading and learning about; does Wikipedia provide better access to information this group cares about?
Their intended consequence in using Wikipedia, in my opinion, would be to answer academic questions they might have in various fields of life to help them with their studies. The unintended consequence, which has much more impact, is that it would widen their horizon and make them realize the infinite amount of information they can access by the press of a button, exposing them to various new cultures and perspectives that would hopefully make them view the world from a broader new perspective and change their outlook in life.
Project idea
[edit]What language Wikipedia projects will you promote to new readers?
[edit]Arabic
How will you communicate with new readers? Will you be communicating with them online, in-person, or both?
[edit]If I am given the responsibility to do so, I will speak to the responsible government officials to ask them to execute my idea of the small section on the power of Wikipedia on the practice book covers on a large scale. If this is not feasible, perhaps I could target the most influential sector of society when it comes to public school students, namely their teachers. This could be done in a top-down fashion by addressing the public school principals who will relay our message down their hierarchy until it reaches the students. To do that, I would require a team to reach out to the principals and later monitor their progress. The strategy we would communicate to those principals is the importance of equipping their students with the important tools they need to succeed in this digital age.
Describe your idea to engage new readers. How might it be implemented? What will you tell people about Wikipedia?
[edit]Think about the steps that might involved to make this idea happen, and what you might teach people about your experience or others' experiences using Wikipedia.
My idea is to start with covering a basic need of theirs, which is to help them with their academics, after which they would realize how empowering it is and begin to exploit it on various levels.
How will you know if this project is successful? What are some outcomes that you can share after the project is completed?
[edit]If you’re not certain about how to respond to this question when starting your idea, you do not need to answer it right now. Campaign participants and Wikimedia Foundation staff can help you consider some options.
What prompted me to respond to this form was the statistic that almost 50% of the people in my area of the world are not familiar with Wikipedia. This project would hopefully improve this figure which can be reported back to monitor our performance. Moreover, we can regularly hold feedback sessions with teachers, principals, students who are randomly sampled from the targeted public schools to uncover the impact of our project.
Do you think you can implement this idea? What support do you need?
[edit]Do you need people with specific skills or resources to complete this idea? Are there any financial needs for this project? Do you need advising from Wikimedia Foundation staff?
Contacting Government officials is something I can personally do. However, I may need support in coming up with a feasible plan om how to do so. Also, the field work of approaching public school principals is something that needs a team.
