Participation

Event length Workshops ranged from 1 to 24 hours, and the average workshop was 4 hours long. Event length was reported for 45 workshops (32%) included in this report. Workshop length ranged from 1.0 to 24.0 hours and averaged 4.0 hours. As the graph below shows, workshops were fairly evenly distributed between 1-2 (27%), 3-4 (24%), 5-6 (24%), and over 6 hour windows (24%). Most workshops lasted between 3 and 6 hours. For this chart, categories were rounded to the nearest full hour. (Eg, an event that was 2.5 hours long falls in the 3-4 hour range while an event that was 2.4 hours falls in the 1-2 hour range). Participation Participant counts of the 77% of editing workshops that reported attendance data (108 workshops) ranged from 3 to 2,500 and averaged 18. The participant counts were obtained for 77% of workshops included in this report (108 workshops). Number of participants ranged from 3 to 2,500 and averaged 18. In these workshops, there were 97 new users (1.7% of participants) and 182 (3.2%) existing users. Of the existing users, 2.8% (161 participants) were existing active users. Many reported workshops did not include usernames, so the user type could not be determined for 5,380 (95.1%) of participants. EDT Participation 2015 Report Cost per participant For the 19% of workshops (27 events) for which participant and budget data were available, the average cost per participant was $4.55 USD. Only 27 (19%) workshops had both budget and participant count data available. Cost per participant ranged from $0.00 USD to $462.29 USD and averaged $4.55 USD. Organizer Hours, Participation, and New Users In the 29 workshops for which data was available, the average number of organizer hours input per participant for editing workshops was 1.3 for all participants and 7.6 hours per participant for new users. Data on organizer hours input and the number of participants were available for 21% of editing workshops (29 events). The number of input hours per participant ranged from 0.0 to 7.9 and averaged 1.3. Data on organizer hours and the number of participants with new user accounts were available for 6% of workshops (9 events). Organizer hours per new user ranged from 1.3 to 40.0 and the average was 7.6 (See graph below.) Input hours, participants, and new users High organizers hours input tends to be associated with more participants. Furthermore, there is a positive relationship between the number of new users and organizer hours, suggesting that either new users take more time to organize or that new users are more likely to attend workshops that take more time to organize.
