Grants:Diversity & Inclusion Survey
This page is kept for historical interest. Any grant programs, policies, or related details mentioned may be obsolete. You can find Wikimedia Foundation's current funding programs at Grants:Start. |
After this one-time baseline survey, our plan is to include these diversity and inclusion questions in the application process for grants.
Survey goals
Through the information gathered from the Grantee Diversity and Inclusion Survey, we hope to assess the current status of diversity and inclusion in the programs and the grantees that are directly funded by the Foundation.
All of us are on a long term journey to improve diversity and inclusion practices. We plan to begin a conversation in partnership with grantees about their current ideas, practices, and additional resources needed for all of us to improve.
The goal of the survey is to establish a baseline understanding of:
- The demographics of our current grantees with a diversity and inclusion lens
- How diversity and inclusion is being addressed in programs of grantees
- How affiliates are currently addressing diversity and inclusion in their organizations.
Use of survey data
The data collected in the survey will be anonymized and information will be shared publicly in a report including an analysis of the data. This report will be used as a starting point for conversations about how diversity and inclusion are being addressed right now by our grantees and how we can continue to ensure that our commitments and practices to equity are globally inclusive.
The information provided in the survey will have no impact on grant applications or eligibility.
Wikimedia Strategy alignment
Since 2017, the strategic direction guides our Movement into the future. We set out on an ambitious goal of becoming the essential infrastructure of the ecosystem of free knowledge and designed recommendations on how to reach there. Core to these recommendations is the concept of safety, inclusion, and sustainability of our movement. To imagine a world where every human has access to the sum of all knowledge, we need to widen and diversify our reach to welcome everyone to our programs and our grants. The push for diversity and inclusion in our movement and the need to measure our progress expanding them are being developed further through the Strategy Recommendations. Specially relevant for this survey are the recommendations Increase the Sustainability of Our Movement and Provide for Safety and Inclusion.
