Granth Yatra (গ্ৰন্থ যাত্ৰা) is an initiative by the Assamese Wikimedia community to collect and preserve valuable texts, both copyrighted and copyright-free, for Assamese Wikisource. This project aims to make Assamese literature accessible to everyone through digitization of books with due permission from the authors or the copyright holders wherever necessary.
Book Collection: We reach out to authors, their families, and literary circles to identify valuable works that can be shared with Wikisource.
Donation Process: With formal permission from copyright holders, we bring copyrighted works into Wikisource. We also seek public domain books that have historical and cultural significance.
Digitization and Proofreading: Once a book is donated, it is digitized and uploaded to Assamese Wikisource through Wikimedia commons. Volunteers proofread and validate the texts to ensure accuracy.
Community Engagement: We organize outreach events and meetings with donors to promote the project and foster long-term relationships.
Cultural Preservation: By making literary works freely available, we help preserve Assamese culture and heritage.
Increased Collaboration: Building relationships with authors, donors and organizations will help expand the Assamese Wikisource and promotes collaboration in the literary community.
Public Awareness: The project highlights the importance of open access knowledge and how Wikisource serves as a digital library for future generations.
Donors: If you are an author or a family member of one, kindly consider donating your works to Wikisource. Please help us enrich Assamese literature online.
Volunteers: Join us in digitizing, proofreading, and validating texts to ensure they meet the expected standards of Wikimedia projects.
Community Members: Help spread the word about Granth Yatra. Share the importance of free access to knowledge and encourage others to participate.
