It is essential that this process is transparent, fair and aligned with the strategic priorities of the movement. Here is an overview of how it currently works: Distribution of financial resources The Wikimedia Foundation is responsible for collecting and managing funds to support Wikimedia projects. These resources come mainly from donations, including annual fundraising campaigns, grants and partnerships. How do you think the GRDC could improve the current situation and which priorities do you think it should have? (max 1500 characters) The role of the interim GRDC within the Wikimedia movement is crucial to improving resource management and community engagement. It can help to improve the current situation by enhancing the impact and sustainability of projects while ensuring smoother and more inclusive management. The priorities of the Interim GRDC could include: Optimizing the allocation of financial resources and enhancing transparency in their distribution; Strengthening inclusiveness by attracting and facilitating the participation of underrepresented groups; Improving training and mentoring programmes to support new contributors; Encouraging inter-community collaboration and event management in a more decentralised manner; Analyzing and using data to better guide development initiatives and priorities. An interim GRDC could play a key role in improving resource efficiency, enhancing community participation and optimising processes to meet contributors' needs. These efforts would help support sustainable growth and ensure that the Wikimedia movement continues to achieve its goals of free and open sharing of knowledge.
By the end of the pilot in two years, what should the GRDC have accomplished and how should we measure its success? (max 1500 characters) At the end of the two-year pilot project, the role of the interim GRDC should be assessed against several key objectives, taking into account the priorities set at the beginning of its mandate and the challenges faced within the Wikimedia movement. The success of the interim GRDC should be measured by its impact on resource management, community development, and the sustainability of the initiatives implemented. The following are the expected criteria and outcomes, as well as indicators to measure success: Improved resource allocation Improved community and inclusiveness Improved training and mentoring programmes Improved collaboration between communities Improved management of community events Assessment of the impact of initiatives and resources The success of the Interim DGSC should be assessed through a combination of qualitative and quantitative indicators that show the impact of its work on resource management, community engagement, inclusiveness, and project sustainability. Ongoing community feedback, programme evaluations, and impact measurements on contributions will serve as a basis for judging the achievements of the interim GRDC at the end of the pilot project. If these goals are achieved, it will demonstrate the effectiveness of the role and the importance of its continuation or evolution within the Wikimedia movement.
