Interim GRDC seats you are running for and why (regional volunteer/thematic volunteer) I'm running the GDRC representative for the ESEAP region.

Over the past 2–3 years, the people I've worked with have truly inspired me—affiliates like Wikimedia Australia and Wikimedia Community User Group Malaysia; local communities in Indonesia such as Komunitas Wikidata Indonesia and Komunitas Wikimedia Denpasar; and the RFC for ESEAP. Their dedication to the movement motivates me to contribute even more.

I'm also grateful for the opportunity to learn from WMF staff who support these groups in their programs and/or conferences, including Wikimania 2023.

I would be honored to connect with more people globally as an ESEAP representative and contribute my WikiExperience to the Interim GDRC over the next two years.

Why are you interested in the interim GRDC and what can you contribute? (max 1000 characters) I have learned from everyone I’ve collaborated with here in ESEAP Region, witnessing their dedication, sacrifices, and hope for the movement. While my work so far has been limited and hasn’t covered all ESEAP Affiliates and Communities, I see the GDRC as an opportunity to share the spirit and passion I’ve experienced with even more people across ESEAP and Globally.

With 2–3 years of experience in the Regional Funds Committees for ESEAP Region, I learn about community engagement, resource allocation, and collaborative decision-making. I am happy to apply these skills to the interim GDRC and take the next step in my journey within the movement.

Please share any volunteering or professional experience relevant for the interim GRDC (role, organization, years) (max 1000 characters) Volunteer experiences outside Wikimedia Movement:
  • I helped with some free literacy events in my hometown. (Documentation)
  • I volunteered in an underrepresented area called Taman Baca Kampung Pemulung. Pemulung means "dumpster diver" in Bahasa Indonesia, a job that most residents in the community rely on. Each week, with other volunteers, I support the children with their homework and studies outside school hours. (Documentation)
  • Occasionally, I volunteer at a single event for 2–3 weeks. It's called "Swap Party" for Fashion and Sustainability, where people can exchange clothes to help reduce waste. (Documentation)

My journey began in college, expanding to my hometown and eventually to broader regional efforts. Currently, I dedicate most of my volunteer time to the Regional Funds Committees. My experience on this stretches from grassroots, unregistered communities to formal affiliate-level organizations.
  • Technology: I hold a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and have over eight years of experience in the tech sector, working both independently and with companies.
Describe your understanding of the Wikimedia Movement's current resource distribution process. (max 1500 characters) My understanding of the Wikimedia Movement's current resource distribution process.
  • The Board of Trustees holds the ultimate responsibility for determining the allocation of funds, including the amount to be distributed to the Community Fund. This decision is made based on proposals provided by the Foundation.
  • The Foundation is responsible for determining how funds are divided and distributed across different regions or thematic areas.
  • In the future, the Interim GDRC plays a critical role in supporting the distribution process by making recommendations on how much money needs to be allocated to each regions or thematic areas.
  • In the current process, Regional Funds Committees oversee fund allocation within their regions, ensuring resources are distributed effectively to grantees. Once established, the GRDC will support these committees, along with others like the Affiliate Committee, to ensure equitable fund distribution within the region.
How do you think the GRDC could improve the current situation and which priorities do you think it should have? (max 1500 characters) The GRDC could improve the current situation by ensuring maximum transparency in its operations, clearly communicating what it represents, and providing information based on reliable data and sources. This approach would benefit not only the regions it serves but also foster better decision-making across the board.

In terms of priorities, the focus should be on enhancing communication and understanding among regions. Members should actively represent their regions, ensuring that everyone is on the same page and minimizing any miscommunication. It’s essential to maintain transparency in all processes, allowing for collaborative decision-making that guarantees fairness. By working together, GRDC can ensure that resources and grants are distributed equitably, addressing the needs of every region appropriately.

By the end of the pilot in two years, what should the GRDC have accomplished and how should we measure its success? (max 1500 characters) GDRC should accomplished the following objectives below.
  • Established a Transparent and Equitable Distribution Process: Ensuring that resource allocation is clear, well-documented, and fairly distributed across regions and thematic areas.
  • Strengthened Regional and Thematic Representation: Enabling all regions and communities to have a voice in decision-making, reducing gaps in fund accessibility.
  • Improved Collaboration with Existing Committees: Either with Regional Funds Committees, Affiliate Committee, and/or other stakeholders to increase the impact of funded projects. This is also ensure the fund supports initiatives that demonstrate clear, measurable benefits to the Wikimedia Movement.

We can measure all of them by community feedback, both grantees and beneficiaries.
