GLAM Wiki Conference Philippines 2024/Rules
The conference focuses on the experiences, new ideas, and collaboration results about open digital resources, cultural preservation including tangible and intangible heritage, and the practical challenges encountered and the solutions adopted.
There are two ways to be considered in the conference: through submission of paper presentations and scholarship application. The announcement of accepted participants is on 31 August 2024.
Submission Requirements
[edit]The inaugural in-person conference will cover topics pertaining to Digital Resources, Heritage Advocacy, Cultural Preservation, and Partnerships with GLAM in various institutional, social, and cultural contexts.
- Topics: Specifically, the presentations must be within the scope of the following topics: Advocacy in Indigenous Languages, Documentation and Digitization, Heritage and Tourism, Indigenous Knowledge, Intangible and Tangible Heritage Conservation, Local Beliefs and Practices, Multilingualism and Translation, Open Culture and GLAM, Public Art and Photography, and others
- Language: The presentation may be written and presented in English or in a Philippine language with English translation
- Description: At least 3 paragraphs describing the purpose of the presentation, its relevance to the conference and the session outcomes.
- Types of presentation and duration: Lightning talk (3-5 minutes), Lecture (15-30 minutes), Workshop (45-60 minutes), Panel discussion (45-60 minutes), and Guided tour/photo walk (60-120 minutes).
Scholarship Application
[edit]The scholarship application for the GLAM Wiki Conference PH 2024 is open to all cultural heritage professionals from Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums and Wikimedians based in the Philippines.
Scholarship is a participation support given to an individual to cover the costs associated with attending a conference. The purpose of the Wiki Conference scholarship is to create equal opportunities for Wikimedians to participate in the activities and benefit from the unique experiences, learning, and personal development opportunities that the conference can provide. The scholarship seats are given to avid contributors, volunteers and conference organizers.
- Criteria: The selection of sponsored participants is based on the point-system used for the ESEAP Conference 2024 scholarship: On-Wiki Contributions, New User Engagement, Community Participation and Collaboration, Inclusivity and Diversity Initiatives, Strategy, Documentation and Outreach, Added Value to Conference, and Special Points.
- Types of scholarship:
- Scholarship A covers the meals during the conference, a shared room for accommodation and transportation from the city of origin to Vigan vice versa
- Scholarship B covers the meals during the conference, and transportation from the city of origin to Vigan vice versa
- Scholarship C covers the meals during the conference, and a shared room for accommodation
- Scholarship D covers the meals during the conference
- A chartered bus from Manila to Vigan vice versa shall be provided for the participants coming from Metro Manila, Southern Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao.
- Questions in the application:
- In at least 3 paragraphs, tell us about your recent involvement in your home Wikimedia project or the broader Wikimedia movement. What have you built or contributed to in order to improve your Wikimedia project or community?
- What activities have you led or organized in the last 12 months? Which activity mattered the most to you personally, regardless of outcome?
- How do you usually share your experiences (or things you‘ve learned) with your community? How will you share what you have learned at the GLAM Wiki Conference PH 2024?
- Relevant information to involvement in the Wikimedia movement:
- Active Wikimedia username
- Number of years as a contributor or volunteer in promoting the Wikimedia projects
- Involvement in the Wikimedia movement
