Abstract

The Internet Archive will share an update about efforts to turn more wikipedia references blue (add more linked references to wikipedia articles.) In particular to add permanent (archived) URLs to digitized resources such as web pages, books, TV News clips and academic papers.

This work builds on the Internet Archive’s experience identifying more than 4 million broken links in 14 Wikipedia sites and replacing them URLs to archived versions from the Wayback Machine.

We will provide specific examples, and describe the process by which resources referenced in wikipedia articles have been, and can be, identified, acquired, digitized and made available via the web.

The proposed format for this session is a “discussion” which would follow a brief update. The goal of the session will be to share progress and to brainstorm and inspire efforts to scale the efforts so that millions of additional links can be added to existing wikipedia articles.
