- Abstract
This presentation will give a general overview of the various projects, collaborations and initiatives that the Italian Wikipedia community and/or Wikimedia Italia carried out in the field of music in the last years, as well as one librarian from Kansas City's experiences using Wikipedia as an information literacy tool.
We will discuss the following points:
- the projects carried out in partnership with the Conservatories “Nicola Sala” of Benevento (project page in Italian) and “Domenico Cimarosa” of Avellino (project page in Italian)
- the November 11th, 2016 edit-a-thon about Giuseppe Verdi, his musical compositions and related articles (event page in Italian), co-organised by Wikimedia Italia, Central Institute for the Union Catalogue of Italian Libraries and for Bibliographic Information, Central Institute for Audio and Visual Heritage and Europeana Sounds
- the results of the Wikimedian residency at Central Institute for Audio and Visual Heritage (project page in Italian)
- the results of the edit-a-thon in Kansas City focusing on Kansas City's rich cultural heritage of jazz
In particular, we will present how the various initiatives played out, how they impacted on Wikimedia projects, evaluate their pros and cons, possibly give out some good advice on how to replicate them in your own country and/or community... and, why not, listen to some of the music we managed to liberate!
