Македонски: Мало парче натриум се става во епрувета во која има вода. Епруветата е поставена во сад со вода заради безбедносни причини. Кога парчето метал доаѓа во контакт со водата започнува реакција која е побурна во однос на реакцијата на литиум со вода. Добиениот гас се пали со запалка и тој гори со жолтопортокалов пламен.

Реакција на натриум со вода: 2Na(s) + 2H2O(l) = 2NaOH(aq) + H2(g)

Горење на водород: H2(g) + ½O2(g) = H2O(g)

Кон реакционата смеса се додаваат неколку капки фенолфталеин. Бојата на индикаторот се менува во малиновоцрвена што укажува дека е добиено соединение со базни својства (натриум хидроксид, NaOH).

English: A small piece of sodium metal has been cut and added to a test tube filled with water. The test tube is placed in a jar with water for safety reasons. When the metal touches the water a reaction more vigorous then the one with lithium and water, takes place. The generated gas is lighted by a lighter and it burns with a yellowish orange flame.

Reaction of sodium with water: 2Na(s) + 2H2O(l) = 2NaOH(aq) + H2(g)

Hydrogen burning: H2(g) + ½O2(g) = H2O(g)

Few drops of phenolphthalein are added to the reaction mixture. The color of the indicator turns raspberry red indicating that a compound with basic properties (sodium hydroxide, NaOH) has been formed.
