Feminism and Folklore Ireland 2025
About the Feminism and Folkore Writing Competition
The Annual Wiki Loves Folkore Photo Competition is taking place in February and March 2025. This contest aims to capture and celebrate diverse folk traditions from around the world in the form of photos, videos and audio content. Feminism and Folklore is the writing contest that takes place alongside Wiki Loves Folklore.
The Feminism and Folklore (An Feimineachas agus an Béaloideas) international writing contest took place for the first time in 2019. It happens each year through February and March with the goal of recording traditional cultures and women in folklore from different regions around the world on Wikipedia.
You can Enter Feminism and Folklore Ireland in Irish or English
This year Ireland is taking part once again in both Wiki Loves Folkore and Feminism and Folkore. You can enter the Writing contest on Wikipedia and as Gaeilge on Vicipéid,the Irish language Wikipedia.
The Irish version of the writing competition encourages editors to write content in Irish related to the themes of feminism and folklore, whether in Ireland or anywhere else in the world. If you are entering in English, we encourage you to write about folk traditions in Ireland. Editors can create new articles, improve existing articles, or translate articles from other languages into Irish to enter the contests!
Contest Theme
The articles must be in line with the contest theme. This includes but is not limited to:
- Festivals
- Material culture
- Dance
- Cooking
- Clothing
- The daily routine of life
Intangible cultural heritage has different meanings for different groups, so the focus is on improving the content of the articles, fostering intercultural dialogue, and encouraging people to look at other ways of life on a comparative basis.
