The Feminism & Folklore Campaign, under the Wiki Loves Folklore umbrella, invites you to its first sensitization workshop on the topic:'Through the Lens of Global Heritage and Culture; Understanding What Folklore Depicts.'

This workshop is an opportunity to strengthen the bonds among folk lovers like you, who are passionate about enhancing the glory and richness of our campaign. It will be a collective discussion and learning experience focused on making a greater impact in our communities.

Report Summary

The first workshop saw people from across the world both new and existing Wikim(p)edians who shared meaning to what "Folklore and feminism" meant in their country or communities. The maiden workshop provided a collaborative platform for participants to explore the intersection of Folklore and Feminism which focuses on Women's role in folk activities. It also emphasized on the importance of preserving and documenting folklore traditions while curating content on Wikipedia. Participants also engaged in interactive exercises and discussions aimed at encouraging local community involvement and contributions to a global video project on folklore.

Workshop Outcome

  • Increased awareness of the connection between folklore and feminism
  • Emphasized the importance of authentic documentation of folk traditions, particularly those involving women
  • Engaged participants in sharing insights via a Jamboard exercise showed how 70% have participated in folklore on editing and media events whereas 50% were entirely new to the campaign
  • Provided guidelines for capturing authentic photographs of folk items and their originators.
  • Encouraged community engagement and local campaigns to preserve folklore.
  • Invited participants to contribute to a video project showcasing global folklore.
