Fante Wikimedians Community/Projects
The Fante translatewiki Project aimed to develop and sustain the Fante Wikipedia by translating items to Fante on the Translatewiki.net The project's goals were to provide comprehensive language support for the Fante Wikipedia incubator, create and translate essential media messages to meet the requirements for a new language Wikipedia and lay the foundation for future Fante community projects.
Introducing Wikipedia to the Fante Community
[edit]The project successfully introduced Wikipedia to the Fante-speaking community through three in-person and online workshops, editathons focused on Fante Wikipedia, and a contest to drive contributions. It aimed to enhance local content and engage new and existing editors in Cape Coast, Takoradi, and Accra.
The Fante Wikimedians Community partnered with Wiki World Heritage to participate in the Whindanger (WH in danger) project. This impactful initiative aimed to promote and raise awareness about UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Danger by creating an interactive website using Wikimedia projects and a participatory creation process. A key part of this project was a public writing challenge to create and improve articles about World Heritage sites at risk on the Fante Wikipedia.
The project aimed to create and enhance articles about parliamentarians from the 3rd and 4th Parliaments of the 4th Republic of Ghana. It encouraged Wikipedians to contribute to the coverage of these historical figures, improving the representation and quality of related content on Wikipedia.
Train the Trainer program
[edit]The "Train the Trainers" program is designed to enhance selected volunteers' leadership and Wikimedia project skills. The training focuses on building leadership abilities, refreshing knowledge of Wikimedia projects, and developing soft skills for effective teaching. The program successfully equips participants to train others and garnered interest from other communities and group leaders who requested our resources.
The campaign aimed to enhance and create articles about Ghanaian women on the Fante Wikipedia Incubator. By expanding content related to these notable figures, the project seeks to improve the representation and visibility of Ghanaian women.
Feminism and Folklore 2023 project focused on feminism, women’s biographies, and gender-related topics, aligning with Wiki Loves Folklore’s emphasis on addressing gender gaps through folk culture themes on Wikipedia. The project successfully enhanced the representation of women and gender issues within the context of folklore and cultural heritage.

The Fante Wikimedians Community introduces "Festive Footprints," a series of photo walks showcasing the vibrant festivals of Ghana's Western and Central Regions. These walks capture the essence of Ghanaian festivals, highlighting their rich traditions and communal spirit. We aim to enhance Wikimedia Commons with cultural visuals and preserve our heritage for future generations.
The Ankos Festival also known as Takoradi street carnival or Masquerade Festival is an annual event celebrated by the people of Takoradi, Ghana.
The Bakatue Festival is celebrated by the chiefs and peoples of Elmina in the Central Region of Ghana. The festival, established at least as far back as 1847, is celebrated on the first Tuesday in the month of July every year. The festival is used to mark the beginning of the fishing season in Elmina.
The Fante Wikimedians Community successfully organized a writing contest on Ghanaian Senior High Schools from 20th August to 20th September 2024. This initiative aimed to increase the number of articles on the Fante Wikipedia, with wikimedians contributing by researching and writing about senior high schools in Ghana.The contest not only enriched the Fante Wikipedia with new, high-quality content but also provided an opportunity for young Wikimedians to develop their research and writing skills. Participants gained valuable experience in creating well-referenced articles while contributing.
