FOSScamp Balkans 2017
The second edition of the summer adventure to spend with free open source geeks from communities all around the Balkans and Europe. Four days of co-creation for Wikimedia Commons of the beautiful island of Syros. Wikimedians from Albania, Greece and other countries will collaborate with the ultimate goal of growing multimedia elements related to Syros island in Wikimedia projects. To achieve this we are planning to take 360' photos of the island, publish them in Wikimedia commons and through a Mozilla WebVR workshop will learn how to create Web VR experiences with the images fetched from Wikimedia Commons. This page will help the documentation of the event and the outcome of these activities.
Goals
[edit]- contribution of 360'images to Wikimedia Commons;
- training of new contributors to Commons by learning in the field;
- collaboration of various Wiki projects between Wikipedians in the region;

About Syros
[edit]Ermoupoli (Greek: Ερμούπολη) stands on a naturally amphitheatrical site, with neo-classical buildings, old mansions and white houses cascading down to the harbour. The City Hall, where Miaoulis Square lies ringed with cafes and with seating areas under palm trees. The "City of Hermes" has numerous churches, including Metamorphosis, Koimisis, St. Demetrius, Three Hierarchs, Anastasis, Evangelistria and St. Nicolas. The Archaeological Museum has many finds and the Municipal Library contains numerous editions. The quarter of the town known as Vaporia is where the sea captains lived. Along its narrow streets, stand numerous neo-classical mansions.
Hacks
[edit]Using GPS data from smart phone photos to insert GPS data to photos from cameras that do not have gps but ware used at the same time.
We need to create a GPS Track log. Move to the folder of the photos that include the geolocation and run:
exiftool -m -p /usr/share/doc/libimage-exiftool-perl/fmt_files/gpx.fmt -d %Y-%m-%dT%H:%M:%SZ ./ > /tmp/gps.gpx
Then move to the directory of the photos without geolocation and Execute:
exiftool -geotag /tmp/gps.gpx ./
