Enhancing Australian biodiversity: Writing new species articles based on queries

[edit]

Abstract/description

[edit]

We look at some query results inserted into some Australian zoologists articles, in particular, Chris Watts, a specialist in beetles that live in deep aquifers.

Note that queries like the one for Watts form part of the articles for

  1. Chris Watts, with currently just 19 pages in Category:Taxa named by Chris H.S.Watts but 288 taxa listed in the query: Wikidata list of taxa named by Chris H.S. Watts.
  2. Tessa Bradford, Australian entomologist with currently just 3 species in Wikidata query for taxa named by Tessa Bradford
  3. Patricia Kott, specialist in sea-squirts. with currently just 21 pages in Category:Taxa named by Patricia Kott but with 543 taxa listed in Wikidata query: Taxa named by Patricia Kott?
  4. Michael R. Gray. Australian spider specialist, with currently 52 pages in Category:Taxa named by Michael R. Gray but with 140 taxa listed in the query: Query wikidata for taxa described by Michael R. Gray?
  5. Volker Framenau. Australian spider specialist, 80 taxa listed in Query wikidata for taxa described by Volker F. Framenau
  6. John Elix. Chemist & lichen taxonomist. 1369 taxa listed in Wikidata query for John Alan Elix
  7. Gintaras Kantvilas. Lichen taxonomist. 339 taxa listed in Wikidata query for Kantvilas
  8. Alma Theodora Lee, Australian botanist. Wikidata query for her taxa
  9. Robert Brown 2893 taxa listed in Wikidata query for Robert Brown
  10. Karen Wilson, Australian botanist: 114 taxa listed in Wikidata query for Karen Wilson

Queries for other taxonomists

[edit]
  1. Francesco Saverio Monticelli 14 results for Wikidata query
  2. Werner Hirschmann, German acaralogist: Wikidata query

What I am hoping to achieve

[edit]

A drive towards inclusion in Wikipedia of some of the tiniest and most newly described Australian species. We look at some query results inserted into some Australian zoologists articles, in particular wouldn't it be great if Category:Taxa named by Chris H.S.Watts (~ 19 pages) were to closely match the list of fauna given by the query: Wikidata list of taxa named by Chris H.S. Watts? (~ 300 taxa). We also look at Australian lichenologists, and Robert Brown's taxa.

Session type

[edit]

Depending on the program committee, this should be presented as either

  1. a talk (15 minutes), or
  2. a workshop (60 minutes)

If we present this as a workshop, I hope to persuade some other Wikimedians to help.
