ABOUT

The Africa Wiki Challenge is an online initiative focused on creating African-related content on Wikipedia. The annual competition strives to enhance information about Africa on Wikipedia and its sister projects.

Often, African-related articles on Wikipedia are either stubs or lack videos or photos to provide visual context and enhance credibility. This inadvertently diminishes interest in reading existing African-related articles on Wikipedia. It's evident that Africa as a whole faces a notable deficiency, particularly in terms of content representation on Wikipedia.

This year marks another exciting chapter in our journey to amplify Africa in the online information space. As we embrace the digital age, the fourth edition of the contest invites participants from across the continent to join us in this initiative to expand and enrich the representation of Africa and African-related content across the World Wide Web, especially on Wikipedia.

From bustling cities to remote villages, Africa possesses a wealth of knowledge and experiences waiting to be shared with the world. Happening from May 25th to June 30th, 2024, the Africa Wiki Challenge is empowering individuals and communities to contribute to the world's largest repositories of free knowledge by sharing insights and contributions that will lead to a better understanding of our continent across borders.

THEME

Under this year’s theme, Educate Africa: Nurturing Minds for the 21st Century, we invite you to join in the publishing of content about various educational aspects, encompassing educational policies and programs on the continent, educational systems across the continent, and other sundry topics regarding education in Africa.

Our theme, Educate Africa: Nurturing Minds for the 21st Century, is in line with this year’s African Union Day theme and is also a part of the African Union’s Agenda 2063. The African Union, under the Agenda 2063 seeks to create revitalized, high-quality, and unified educational systems that meet the needs of Africa, generate acceptable attitudes, values, knowledge, and skills, and support the continent's participation in the international economy of knowledge. With the Africa Wiki Challenge 2024, our objective is to call attention to and recognize the diverse educational perspectives in Africa, encouraging the sharing of information and expertise through engaging content contributions.
