Equity Watch Initiative Art + Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon 2022
Background
[edit]The event was targeted at engaging postgraduate students of University of Nigeria, Nsukka to contribute to English Wikipedia focusing on closing the gender gap in education in Nigeria.
Aim
[edit]The major goal of this event was to: train male and female post graduate students on how to edit and add content to Art + Feminism (English Wikipedia). It was also targeted at edit-a-thon and meet-up program. Thus, we recruited new editors, increased the skills of existing editors and added and improved content on English Wikipedia. The major activities were to organize two trainings, two edit -a-thon and one meet up event.

Outcome
[edit]The event Equity Watch Initiative Art + Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon 2022 which held at MTN Digital Library of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Library, University of Nigeria, Nsukka was the very Wikimedia event first event of Equity Watch Initiative (E-WIN) We hosted 2 trainings, 2 edit-a-thon and 1 meet-up. We targeted 30 participants but more people indicated interest to join and we could not turn them down. Forty three people participated despite the fact the Universities in Nigeria including University of Nigeria, Nsukka were on strike. We targeted 30 new editors but we had 39 new editors and 3 old onse making it a total of 42 editors for the events. Our target was to create or improve on 30 articles. We created 2 new articles and edited 23 articles, added 2.75k words, 15 refrences, got 663k views and uploaded 38 photos on Wikicommon. The participants were put through some of the fundamentals of Wikimedia Foundation, Movement strategy, Wikipedia Policies and Guidelines and the Five Pillars. It was an exciting moment for the participants as they were made to understand the importance of contributing to Wikimedia projects. Majority of the participants were new editors and the showed a great interest to continue contributing to Wikimedia projects. Though we had 43 participants, 8 did not come on the first day. But apart from those that missed on the first day, every participants continued until the last day of the event.
