Egypt Wikimedians User Group/Trips/Mawlid Sidi Abdel-Rahim El Qenawy Phototrip 2025

On Saturday, February 8, 2025, Egypt Wikimedians User Group (EWUG) organized a phototrip to Mawlid Sidi Abdel-Rahim El Qenawy in Qena. Although the term "Mawlid" refers to the celebration of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad in Islamic countries, it is also used to refer to a type of popular celebration, especially in Egypt, of the birth of some Sufi sheikhs. It is an occasion similar to the atmosphere of the celebration of the Prophet's birthday, which includes hanging decorations, Dhikr gatherings, Inshad Dini, and reciting the Quran. In addition to outings, buying sweets for the birth of the Prophet, enjoying amusement parks, and buying toys for children. Some areas hold a Mermah (equestrianism competition), in addition to practicing Tahtib.
