The Wikimedians of Albanian Language User Group has made significant progress in enhancing education in Kosovo throughout 2024. Our work was focused on raising awareness about the transformative role of Wikimedia in education, empowering communities to engage with free knowledge, and fostering collaboration to expand access to educational resources. Wiki Education recently celebrated its ten-year anniversary with a virtual celebration featuring remarks from special guests Wikimedia Foundation CEO Maryana Iskander, Wiki Education Board Chair P.J. Tabit, former Board Chair Diana Strassmann, and Executive Director Frank Schulenburg, as well as the reflections of program participants, staff, contributors, funders, and community members worldwide. The free learning and open knowledge on #1Lib1Ref in Anambra created spaces for impactful information. It was planned and implemented in Anambra State with members of the Nigerian Library Association (NLA) Anambra State Chapter, Anambra Network of Wikimedia User Group Nigeria, Undergraduate and Postgraduate students and lecturers. The participants were taught how to create and improve Wikipedia articles and upload images to Wikicommons. The generous funds from Wikimedia User Group Nigeria enabled the advocacies for open education and arrays of information with #1Lib1Ref. Read more…

On January 24, 2025, a group of first-year students from the University of Fine Arts in Tirana, from the programs of Directing, Acting, and Scenography-Costume Design, focused on contributing to free knowledge on Wikipedia. The activity was held as part of the course Albanian History of Theater and was supported by M.A. Iris Canaj and Milito Kutali, the dean of the University. Read more…

The last months of the year have been busy months for Wikimedia MKD. Wikimedia MKD continues organizing events for pieces of training students and the organization aims to teach and motivate young people to edit articles on Wikipedia. In this way, with the increase in the number of students, the wiki clubs also grow and the educational program of Wikimedia MKD is richer. Read more…

The call for papers for the 12th annual Wiki Workshop is now open! Researchers in education are encouraged to submit their 2-page extended abstracts by March 9, 2025. The virtual event will take place on May 21-22, 2025, and is free to attend. Submissions are non-archival, making this a great opportunity to share and discuss research related to Wikimedia and education. Read more…

On December 15, 2024, the second Wikipedia training workshop was held at the Faculty of Literature and Foreign Languages of University of Tehran. In this workshop, attended by interested students from the Japanese, Chinese, German, and Spanish language and literature groups, participants were introduced to the five principles of Wikipedia, how to create a user account, and the rules and regulations of wiki writing. At the end of the workshop, it was decided that in the next semester, the training groups, after selecting one person as the program manager, would write articles related to the history, literature, and language of that group and, after being reviewed by the workshop instructors, transfer them to the main Wikipedia articles space. This action was taken to expand information exchange and scientific cooperation in universities. Read more…

Last December, as part of the seminar Experiences in Natural Sciences and Environmental Education with a gender perspective, which took place at the Institute for Innovation and Technology Transfer of Nuevo León, México, the experience of bringing Wikipedia to the classroom with a gender perspective by creating biographies of Colombian women scientists was presented. On October 17, 2024 with the support of the Wikimedia Ukraine, the first wikiwalk around the sights of “Ancient City of Lviv” was held for students of the Lviv Polytechnic National University. The event was organized by associate professor Mariana Senkiv with the goal of attracting students to participate in the international photo contest “Wiki Loves Monuments” and learning about their native land. The two-hour excursion part of the walk was conducted by Roksolana Debrianska, a well-known Lviv guide. Read more…
