Wikibooks project in teaching
Wikimedia Serbia is organizing activities on Wikibooks with one educational institution within the Wikipedia Education Program for the very first time. The project arose from the need to adapt the activities to the primary school's students. It involves writing texts related to European and Asian countries. The texts will be adapted for children under the age of 12 and will be available for wider use in the country.
The project involves increasing the content on Wiki projects and introducing a new way of writing texts that is close to children and that is adapted to their age and skills. The goal of the project is to motivate students to love books by making them on Wikibooks, to learn how to write texts on Wiki projects, to pay attention to the verifiability and accuracy of the information on the Internet, as well as other sources of information.
"The realization of the project that belongs to the field of education for the school “Jovan Sterija Popović” is very important. In the previous school year, we very successfully realized the planned Wiki project, although the classes lasted 30 minutes due to the epidemiological situation. The four-year cooperation with Wikimedia Serbia enabled students of our school to gain experience working in a real environment and to be able to see the result of their work immediately. Students are interested in this kind of exercise, they ask questions and they are actively involved in all segments of text writing”, said Sanja Ječmenica, a teacher of Informatics and coordinator of the project that received grant support from Wikimedia Serbia.
