HerStory and Herring Sandwiches

Summary: In the second week of March 2022, in the Polish border town of Cieszyn, for a few days new and old Wikipedians followed the history of women important to the region.

As part of the Wikimedia Polska "(Un) known Wikipedia women" campaign, local journalists, activists, schoolgirls, as well as researchers and representatives of libraries, cultural institutions listened to lectures on herstory, walked the trail of women from Cieszyn Silesia and - in the beautiful interiors of the Cieszyn Library, learned to edit Wikipedia and created women's biographies on Polish Wikipedia! We also ate pizzas and the famous local herring sandwiches together, we got to know each other through conversations and sharing knowledge ― not only the Wikipedia one. The topic of the herstory walks that we carried out in Cieszyn also interested others: at the invitation of the Wikimedia Volunteer Supporters Network, later on, there was a presentation on such an element of the edit-a-thon which is going beyond the computer screen, setting the gender gap problem in a different way ― in our history, in our life and on Wikipedia.
