Database Directive Consultation
The European Commission has launched its Public Consultation on Database Directive. This is the Wikimedia working page to draft answers.
Who should submit answers to the Commission?
[edit]This consultation comes right after the consultation on the "Data Driven Economy", which was biased and aimed at suggesting a new data right should be created. The current consultation seems a lot more balanced. This page will prepare the answers for the FKAGEU. Individuals or movement organisations are welcome to participate, but we would appreciate if they let us know about it.

[edit]Idea behind consultation
[edit]The European Commission's intention is to revamp the entire digital single market framework in Europe. After privacy and copyright, "data" is the next big package in the pipeline. We need to fend off ideas about new related-right for data (producers) and at the same time ask for a scrapping of the "sui generis" right on databases in the EU.
Important deadlines
[edit]We have until 30 August to submit our responses.
