ESEAP Conference 2024/Report/Hillun Vilayl Napis (WMID)

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Things learned at the conference

[edit]
  • I saw that the Wikimedia Community User Group Malaysia (MYS) is growing. In 2019, I only knew three people from this user group; two attended WikiNusantara (a national conference in Indonesia). However, at the ESEAP 2024 Conference, there were many MYS members, especially new contributors who edited Wikipedia Kadazandusun. I found out more details about MYS after attending the conference.
  • This was my first time attending the ESEAP Conference. I met many volunteers in the ESEAP region, although I had previously participated at the ESEAP Strategy Summit in Bangkok in 2019 and Wikimania 2019 in Stockholm. I also met volunteers from Japan for the first time at this conference.
  • Even though MYS hosted the ESEAP Conference, I saw good collaboration with community members from other countries who contributed to its success.

Comments/ suggestions about the conference

[edit]
  1. I recommend having a dedicated person responsible for live streaming to address technical issues quickly.
  2. The committee should send information about the conference by email to participants. The committee shared some information only in the Telegram group.
  3. I like the karaoke party session.
