ESEAP Conference 2022/Submissions/WikiGap in the ESEAP region
WikiGap in the ESEAP region
[edit]Abstract/description
[edit]2022 marks the fifth anniversary of the WikiGap campaign, aiming to close the gender gap on Wikipedia. Several communities in the ESEAP region have been long standing organizers of the campaign, with remarkable results. But there is still a long way to go before the gender gap is closed, and several communities in the region have expressed interest in taking part in the campaign, without having the means or the knowledge how to do so. How can the ESEAP region take the lead in closing the gender gap? How can more communities and volunteers join the campaign? This session will briefly outline the campaign and its background, invite organizers from the region to share their experiences, discuss how to spread the campaign to more areas in the region, and aim to build the foundation for even more successful WikiGap campaigns in the future.
Relationship to ESEAP or to the theme
[edit]The session relates both to the theme and the ESEAP region. The session will be especially focused on WikiGap in the ESEAP region, on its background and its future. WikiGap has also been surprisingly efficient in connecting Wikimedians and communities as well as bringing new volunteers to the movement, and thus it connects well to reconnect as a theme as well. How can we learn from the pandemic years and improve the campaign for the future?
