ESEAP Conference 2022 Report from Vanj Padilla

[edit]

Things learned at the conference

[edit]
  • The summit has opened a wide range of insights for me in the world of Wikipedia that I might have not known before.
  • It gave me a view of how others contribute and build Wikipedia in their own languages as well as grow their communities to be part of the global movement.
  • I became more interested in contributing local laws on Wikisource as well as improve our Wikivoyage projects to promote not only our language but also our local culture, destinations and heritage in the Philippines.
  • I learned also that preserving artifacts, literary heritage is a high impact project that would benefit the future generations.

Things the participant contributed or participated in the conference

[edit]
  • I did some hosting during the fellowship night.
  • I moderated the Governance panel with WMF Board of Trustees member Rosie Stephenson- Goodknight and Mehman Ibraginov, member of the Affialiations Committee.
  • I also contributed to the planning and strategy meeting of the Wikimania 2023 Organizing Team.

Plans after the conference

[edit]
  • As part of the Wikimania 2023 Core Organizing Team to happen in Singapore, I will contribute my skills in communications and digital strategy to help make it better.
  • I will also contribute to the Programming Committee of said Wikimania to maximise the impact to our physical attendees as well as the global virtual audience.
  • I have proposed two (2)Pangasinan community projects to jumpstart 2023 as a result of my attendance in the summit.
  • I will help regrow and revitalise our community to contribute more to the overall goals of the Movement strategy and increase worthwhile projects in Pangasinan, Philippines and our nearby territories.
  • I will help organise future summits as this one.

Comments/ suggestions about the conference

[edit]
  • The summit was well organized, packed and loaded with lots of learning and camaraderie in between. It feels nice to connect with co-community members of the ESEAP hub, and we are seeing that community relations are more solidifying and the region wants to bond stronger as a hub and as a regional cooperation.
  • The WMF Foundation staff were all so supportive and we felt that they really want to stregnthen and make ESEAP succeed for whatever structure it may evolve to become in the near future.
