ESEAP Conference 2022 Report from Stitchbird2
[edit]Things learned at the conference
- The existence of Wikisource and how to edit it
- The existence of Web2Cit and its usefulness in adding citations to Wikipedia
- OpenRefine upskilling
- The existence of Entity Explosion
- What amazing work everyone in ESEAP is doing in this space, especially the Indonesia contingent! I was in awe about the project to document old manuscripts written on palm leaves.
Things the participant contributed or participated in the conference
- Participation in one of the opening musical items, i.e. the Aotearoa New Zealand group sang a waiata together.
- Participation in Wikisource workshop by User:Beeswaxcandle on editing Papuan Fairy Tales
- Participation in Wikimedia Commons upload workshop by Giantflightlessbirds
- Participation in wonderful Sydney harbour dinner cruise!
Plans after the conference (from what was learned or contributed in the conference)
- Using Entity Explosion by User:99of9
- Using Web2Cit by Kerry_Raymond
- Desire to carry on doing some work in Wikisource
- Improving plant species Wikidata items, including using OpenRefine, after hearing talks by User:99of9 and User:MargaretRDonald, and getting one-on-one help from both of them.
- I definitely want to keep coming to these conferences, and hopefully even Wikimania 2023!
