Content Partnerships Hub/Needs assessment/Research results/Wikimedia Norge
Notes from meeting with Wikimedia Norge.
Date: 2021-09-23
Participants in meeting:
- Jon Harald Søby, WMNO
- Axel Pettersson, WMSE
- Tore Danielsson, WMSE
- Do you work with content partnerships today?
Most WMNO partnerships are related to content, either images or data, some video. Getting material up to commons or Wikidata. Continuing new projects with National Archives (i.e. Bodil Biørn/Armenia), Reinbeitekommisjonen. During a project more images were found which led to a continued project. Using the WMSE script for images from Digitalt museum.
- What is your normal work process in collaborations with partners?
Trying to continue work with old partners, finding new material. Also looking for grants that can lead to new partners. Trying to see what “topicyear” can be used for to find grants and material.
- Which are your partners and collaborations just now?
- What are your desired content partnerships in the future?
Already connected with most GLAMs thanks to Digitalt museum. NRK would be a great potential partner, both historical and recent material. Minute by minute material is free, but hard to upload 13 days of Hurtigrutten travel. More cooperation with Sámi communities/organizations.
- Are you having a work plan for new partners and collaborations?
No plan in place, but should be worked out.
- What are your needs for a successful work with partners?
Easily accessible metadata, setting a good workflow. Tech resources are needed to be able to do more uploads. More developers. Not planning for training institutions to do uploads themselves, but keeping the option in mind. Mostly looking for material that’s already free, not really trying to convince institutions to release material under free licenses. Some problems with the Commons community to ensure released material is free.
- What does the best support look like for a successful partnership?
Where to find the best technical solutions for how to upload images and metadata. Help converting tools to be usable by other countries/communities and institutions. Language support for communities spanning over several countries, like Sámi placenames. Translations/lables should be available in Wikidata. Different senses of Lexemes should also be available and added to Wikidata.
- Do you know of someone in your network who would be interested in this kind of collaboration too?
