Expert Committee

One of the intentions with the Thematic hub is to open up for more parts of the movement to engage in work with content and partnerships. One way of ensuring this is to form an Expert Committee to the Helpdesk.

The Committee will be able to define a more detailed scope and arrangement for itself. Fundamentally, the scope of the Committee is however to provide guidance and guidelines around what to prioritize, when it comes to for example batch uploads. As hub governance is still an uncharted territory the Committee’s early work will itself provide insights into the continuous development of the Movement Charter.

There will be hard, complex and strategic issues to think about when the work with the content starts. What types of content are most important? Is it more important to get a large reach, or to fill gaps? Should we prioritize large uploads, in terms of quantity? Or should we prioritize important uploads, in terms of quality?

The Expert Committee will be empowered to take the decisions on what to prioritize. This will be done in relation to the concrete requests to the Thematic hub through the Helpdesk.

  Patricia is a social communicator, cultural heritage promoter, and open knowledge enthusiast based in Santiago, Chile. She advocates for more and better open culture policies for Chile and the Latam region. She is also the current Executive Director of Wikimedia Chile, where she leads projects in open education, local content creation for Wikimedia projects, and training new communities on the Wiki ethos.

  Bodhisattwa is a Bengali Wikimedia volunteer from India who is passionately interested in digitally preserving the culture, heritage, history and language of the region of Bengal and thus all his efforts for the last ten years on Wikimedia projects are revolved around this ambition.

  Subhashish is a civil society leader and media practioner. He is interested in using non-fiction media and interdisciplinary research as democracy-making tools. His work spans across ethical, equitable and participatory knowledge sharing. He has over a decade of experience from nonprofits including Ashoka, Internet Society, Mozilla, Wikimedia Foundation, and the Centre for Internet and Society. He is a 2019 Yoti Digital Identity Fellow, a 2017 National Geographic Explorer and a 2017 MJ Bear Fellow, and has produced and directed nine non-fiction films. He founded OpenSpeaks (open toolkit for language documentation) and co-founded non-profit O Foundation.

  Éder is a Brazilian software developer, mathematician and software developer. He is mostly active on Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia in Portuguese since 2016 and has been developing tools on Toolforge since 2020. He is the current Products and Technology manager and liaison for User Group Wiki Movimento Brasil.

  Susanna is an advocate of open access to cultural heritage who works at AvoinGLAM in Finland. We have played around with the acronym GLAM, shifting the focus from institutions toward cultural heritage in general by changing it into Global Languages, Art & Memory.
