Finding the world's built cultural heritage – for everyone to access on Wikidata

In the project Connected Open Heritage, Wikimedia Sverige focuses on protected cultural heritage objects, such as buildings and archaeological monuments, around the world. By putting information about them on Wikidata, they are easier for everyone to discover and learn about. The work done in this project would have not been possible without the community that had compiled the Monuments database, used by the Wiki Loves Monuments competitions. The database is based mostly on data from Wikipedia editions in different languages; moving it to Wikidata makes it easier to access and query.
What is needed to go forward
[edit]The hub staff is looking for openly-licensed datasets of the world's built cultural heritage, such as protected buildings, archaeological sites – especially in regions that have escaped our attention due to our language biases and lack of knowledge. We hope to collaborate with other groups and individuals within the movement e.g. Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki World Heritage User Group and externally e.g. heritage organizations, universities etc.
But putting the data on Wikidata is only the first step. It can always be improved, connected to other datasets, visualized in interesting ways and re-used on Wikipedia in different languages.
