Wiki-ancestry
- Problem: People can't find the person or can't find distant relatives
- Proposed solution: This project will allow many people to tell about their relatives and find other relatives. You can also lay out a person who could be lost without a trace. Everyone (registered user only) creates a page on which he describes his relative (one page - one person). The structure of a relative's page may be identical to a Wikipedia article. Illustrated via wikimedia commons. People will create pages and other people can find each other through distant relatives. A family tree can be created using a separate template page.
It will also be possible to post the results of DNA tests.
- Who would benefit: Poor people who do not have enough money for a DNA test and people who are desperate to look for their loved ones
- More comments: The project itself can consist of two parts:
- Wiki-ancestry
- Search for the missing
- Or a project to search for the missing can be done separately.
- See also the Wikimedia genealogy project for an overview of similar projects and proposals.

Discussion
- Support. While I can see a whole host of potential issues (after all, my real life last name is that of a very famous confederate general from the U.S.), including the relative impossibility of verifying the accuracy of such a project; I think this a really really good idea, and I feel like it's a niche that fits nicely in with what we do! Foxtrot620 (talk) 22:58, 24 January 2023 (UTC)
- It's worth noting that there's legitimate privacy concerns with getting a DNA test, and probably other reasonable concerns other than money. Eiim (talk) 21:59, 25 January 2023 (UTC)
- There already exists WikiTree with 33 milions entries. It would be fine, if this project will use some wikidata specific things, but creating new project is doubtful. JAn Dudík (talk) 20:40, 26 January 2023 (UTC)
- See Proposals for new projects (or Wikispore). This isn't a technical proposal. The technical infrastructure for handling DNA data on MediaWiki already exists (see SNPedia). --Tgr (talk) 21:24, 29 January 2023 (UTC)

- Oppose not within the scope of the technical team. Consider submitting your proposal on Proposals for new projects. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs) 01:38, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
- Strong oppose. Perhaps cool, but there are real security concerns here and this is ultimately not the best use of the project's money. DarkSide830 (talk) 02:44, 11 February 2023 (UTC)

- Oppose: Outside of CWS scope. Proposal for new projects go to Proposals for new projects. Wikimedia genealogy project is one such proposed project and might be what you're looking for. If not, start a new project proposal at the above link. —(ping on reply)—CX Zoom (A/अ/অ) (let's talk|contribs) 08:14, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
- Strong oppose Outside of the project goal, and as noted there are security/privacy concerns --Anonimo88 (talk) 16:41, 18 February 2023 (UTC)

- Strong oppose There are specific professional organizations for this service accessible for free, no need to spend Wikimedia Foundation resources for just-an-other (amateur) ascendancy portal. These information meant to be connected, in the first place. And, as mentioned above, there are lots of privacy issues which are not in the normal workflow of Wikipedia participants. - Strong oppose This should be a new wiki for itself. Thingofme (talk) 01:51, 23 February 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose I'm not against the idea but it would be better to create a new Wikimedia project, even if it will cost a little too much money when there are already Wikimedia projects that not many people watch. Manjiro91💬 12:20, 23 February 2023 (UTC)
