Description

Short descriptions, which are displayed in the search widget and on the mobile interface also under the article title, and other sensible data specific to only one language are prone to hard-to-detect vandalisms, because they are stored at Wikidata (English language Wikipedia makes exception, though). Vandal fighters use the local Wikipedian Recent changes page, which displays only local edits, and Wikidata vandalisms affecting that Wikipedia's pages are likely to evade patrolling. Wikipedia watchlists can be configured so as to show edits to the Wikidata items linked to the pages a user is watching, but they are restricted to the set of pages listed in the watchlist. Currently, the Wikidata recent changes pages cannot display only the edits affecting a given language, so it is almost useless if one whishes to check the recent Wikidata edits affecting their home Wikipedia. Not once I have discovered vandalized short descriptions that were lingering for long time periods. There is a Toolforge tool, Wikidata vandalism dashboard, meant to ease the process, but it is not very effective.
