Description

Recent changes and derived views (watchlist, related changes) allow users see when pages are added to or removed from categories. Still, a decade since the feature has been implemented, there is no native interface that can list pages recently removed from a selected category. While related changes (Special:RecentChangesLinked) are pretty close, it isn't possible there either because when a page is removed from category, it isn't considered linked anymore (chicken-and-egg problem). The goal of the wish is to make this possible by modifying the special page or developing a new dedicated view for categorization changes. Some changes have already been proposed: [1]. This wish received moderate support in 2021, 2022, and 2023 editions.

Another improvement could be support for tracking changes of subcategories (one level depth, I don't think support for nesting is possible and necessary). For example, communities could add all categories of interest (e.g., maintenance) to an "umbrella" category and track all additions to them, thus create a custom queue(s) of pages to tidy up (something like VRTS on wiki) and increase productivity of wiki maintainers by centralizing such queues.
